The streets of Atlantis
Warning for mentions of violence and torture
IN PROGRESS |
Éponine had never had problems sleeping before, she'd always slept soundly and without issue but ever since getting rescued she'd found it difficult to get a full night's sleep. The darkness that used to hold nothing to fear now heard the sounds of screams she would never forget, the terror that she wasn't really free from that place and that nothing she was now experiencing was real. She should have felt safe in her own room but in the dark of night it was not a place she wanted to be. When nightmares woke her she chose to take to the streets because at least out there she wasn't alone. She'd never feared being alone but now it scared her and she didn't know how to deal with that. She was wrapped up in a few layers, the cold seeping in was something she wanted to avoid, her heels clicked on the sidewalk as she walked down streets she now knew as well as she'd known the streets of Paris that she'd called home. She was letting her feet carry her along, no real destination in mind other than away from her nightmares and the horrors they held. One thing she'd never thought she'd feel was weak, not in the way she did now and she didn't really know how to escape that feeling other than what she was doing now. There were other ways of course but she knew they would only do more damage in the long run. This option at least wouldn't see her undoing all the hard work she'd done to make something of herself since she'd arrived in Atlantis. It was late, she knew that but she'd not looked at the clock before she'd snuck out of the apartment. There were people around and that was all that really mattered, she felt better able to fend of the demons in the dark when there were people about. There was strength in numbers, she was certain of that fact and it brought her some comfort as she continued to walk along the street. As she turned a corner a noise startled her and she froze on the spot, terror in her eyes and the colour draining from her face. Her hands clenched into fists at her sides and she waited for a blow that wasn't actually coming but that her mind told her was. |
