It didn’t take long to find Daniel in time for dinner and walk to Cava. The snowstorm was still going strong but they’d both dealt with worse weather before. After ordering Sam leaned back taking a sip of the white wine she’d ordered. “So, are you settling in okay so far?” She’d said many times before Daniel showed up how much he’d love it here. Daniel was glad that Sam was here on Atlantis even if it was odd that they remembered right up to the same thing but she had been here for a year already. He supposed it was to be expected in a place where different realities, some of which he was familiar with as fiction, were present. He wished the rest of their team were around too though. Ordering something he settled back at the table. “It’s alright,” he said. “Certainly interesting. I think even with everything that we went through at home, there was nothing quite like this,” he admitted. Laughing she nodded. "I couldn't agree more with you, as strange as things were at home I never walked into a bar and saw myself and my team on one of their screens." Sam would never forget that feeling, that moment of watching an episode of their home. "How is your roommate?" Sam asked knowing that could make things easier or harder depending on who Daniel got, from what she remembered it was someone who had also recently showed up. “That would be whacky,” he agreed. “I’m kind of glad I haven’t seen anything,” Daniel admitted. “Though is it that different to when we were filmed or the alternative realities that turned up at SG Command?” he half pondered, half questioned. “Or Wormhole X-Treme for that matter?” “She’s not that bad. I haven’t had much to do with her yet. We kind of set the ground rules and went about our own things,” he shrugged. “I suppose we’ll see what happens though. Who’s your roommate? Anyone I’d know of?” he asked curiously. “It was,” Sam paused. “Yeah, it was a lot weirder than any of those, mostly because it was things we lived through and we were there on the screen for everyone to watch.” She debated bringing up the exact episode she’d ended up watching but thought better of it. “Hopefully she remains a good roommate,” Sam didn’t know much about the girl he’d been assigned to live with. “Grant Ward, your team leader,” Sam smirked as she thought about it. “He’s been through a lot as far as I can tell and seems to have found his place here, I think he makes a good team leader, and not a bad roommate. Have you met everyone from your team yet? Grant and Caroline?” “I can imagine,” he nodded. “I don’t think I’d want anyone just to be able to watch my life like that. We’ve gone through so much and so much of it is that personal it just doesn’t sit well with me?” he agreed. “I hope so,” he nodded. “I haven’t really had much to do with him but he seems decent enough from what I can tell but we’ve talked. Caroline has said a brief hello too. I haven’t really talked to either of them much but I look forward to getting to know both of them.” “Trust me, I get it, but like it or not people can look us up, watch aspects of our lives, read about them even,” Sam added as she thought about the websites she’d found. “It does make you wonder if the whole Xtreme Wormhole stuff … never mind,” she stopped herself from speaking. “I don’t want to think too much about it.” Nodding she took in what he was saying. “They’re both good, Caroline is a vampire, don’t worry, she seems very in control of herself, but you should be aware of it, she can be an asset in the field for recon with her speed and she’s pretty indestructible with a few exceptions. Ward is well trained and has only gotten better with his time in Atlantis. You might have to be the voice of reason with them though, they’re both very strong personalities.” She advised. “Yeah, I’m not sure if I want to consider that either. It leads to a lot of questions and given this place I’m not sure I want to know the answer to them. Still, it could be super interesting too. Just a headache at the same time?” he said with a shrug. “It didn’t occur to me that Vampires and the like would be real but if we’re fictional I suppose it does make sense. Wizards and Werewolf too?” he asked curiously. “Me a voice of reason? That will be interesting. You and Jack were much better at that sort of thing.” “A headache might be the least of it,” Sam commented with a smirk. “Yeah, you know those books kids really like, Harry Potter? They’re real, Captain Kirk from Star Trek was here for a little while, there are a handful from that world, mutants, Star Wars, a lot of different kind of vampire type people, you will not be bored that’s for sure.” Laughing she nodded. “Yup, you, the voice of reason, don’t let it get to your head.” Daniel might have made a noise. He wouldn’t admit it though. Ever. “That sounds amazing,” he said his eyes lighting up with the prospects of everything that he could learn while here. “I look forward to meeting everyone,” he told her truthfully. Looking down to hide her laugh at his excitement she looked back up after taking a bite of her dinner. “I bet they are all looking forward to meeting you too.” She meant it too. “But eat your dinner before it gets cold.” She teased before digging back into hers. |
