FRED ✦ LORNA
Bonding Low complete |
A few days had passed and Lorna could really see what they were fighting for, the knowledge that their future didn't have to happen left her with really mixed feelings. It'd be so easy to get rid of Kai now but that'd screw over two of her closest friends. None of them would be who they were today without what happened in their past. Was it worth potentially making sure their future wasn't the one that came to be? Those questions were often running through her mind as she walked around Atlantis. People were happier here, she passed a tall man who was in love with his girlfriend, and the power of it was overwhelming, she felt the excitement of someone buying their Christmas gifts for friends and family. She could practically feel a few people singing as they looked at the decorations around Atlantis. The emotions weren't nearly as dark and difficult as she usually felt off of the people of Atlantis fighting COS. Sure there were some that weren't exactly positive, but overall things were a lot better. Lorna had made a point to see both of her parents soon after arriving and being checked out by her resistance friends. When she'd come, she'd just been nearly caught (not that she'd told anyone that yet) and had some cuts. They were all mostly healed now. Today was about catching up with her mom again, so Lorna made her way to the bakery picking up what she knew to be her mom's favourite baked treat and two drinks. She made her way to where her mother lived with Marcel Gerard. She always knew why her mom ended up in the heart tower and as she passed by people, she could just feel that it was the right place for her. "Hey!" She said seeing her mom waiting for her in the bar area of her floors common room. Having children was something that Fred had always hoped for, but given her life back in Los Angeles, it was hard to imagine bringing children into that world. She was so entrenched in her work at Wolfram and Hart, that she didn’t want to subject a child to possibly being taken advantage of by the Partners. Kids in Atlantis, though, was like a miracle… and kind of strange considering her daughter’s father was Cisco. They worked together, and she really liked him but they also didn’t know each other that well yet either. Apparently things changed on that front in the future. Regardless of how it all happened and that her very grown up daughter was now walking around Atlantis, Fred was excited to get to know her. They’d already spent some time together, but she was glad to be able to plan another day with her just for the two of them. Fred had always grown up with such a happy relationship with both of her parents, and she wanted nothing different for her relationship with her own daughter. She made her way downstairs for their meeting, and smiled when she saw Lorna pass through the doorway. “Hi!” She greeted and didn’t hesitate to pull Lorna into a quick hug. Just her named pulled on her heartstrings and made her miss home even more than she already did, but that was okay. It just meant she still kept her friends from home in her heart even years down the line. Seeing the treats that Lorna had brought, Fred grinned. “Pastries and caffeine. You really are mine, huh?” She was definitely glad to see those genes had been passed down the line. “Have you been having a good day so far?” "Gotta stay fueled up," Lorna smiled after hugging her mom handing her one of the coffees. "It's been good, it's so weird seeing Atlantis like this, a good kind of weird, it just is amazing," Lorna was still a little overwhelmed by how amazing Atlantis was, how amazing life was with color there were things from being a kid she remembered, but it was easy to let some of that slip away when you were fighting a war. "All the different food is remarkable," she added holding up the bag. "How about you?" “So far so good,” she said with a smile. “And only getting better.” She smiled. Spending the afternoon with her daughter from the future was a pretty good way to spend the day if she said so herself. She probably should have been more freaked out by Lorna or any of the kids showing up, but it was hardly the strangest event in her entire life. She’d definitely experienced weirder. “I imagine it’s very different from the world you remember,” Fred replied. She could imagine what her daughter’s llfe had been like all of those years or how hard she’d fought to make things better for everyone. It made her proud, and she barely knew any of the details. “Compared to a lot of the others, I’ve really only been here a short while, so I’m still learning a lot about the city myself. Do you remember Atlantis at all like this or had COS taken over when you were young or before you were born?” "It's really different," she smiled softly. Sometimes it was hard seeing how completely different the world was here and what it could have been for her and her friends. She often wondered what it'd be like if they'd had an easier path, who they'd be. "I remember some of it, ice cream, some colours always stay with you, I was a kid when things really started to grey out I guess." She shrugged unsure what else she should say about it but she did feel like her world might not completely happen if they did something about it now. "Remembering colors and seeing them are so different, everything was black and white. Occasionally we'd find something with a hint of a color, but it was really rare." It was hard for Fred to hear how hard parts of her daughter’s life had been. Living in a world that wasn’t really her own and staying on the run from the agents looking for them if they resisted. Fred had lived five years of that life, and it wasn’t one she ever wanted for her own daughter. She was thankful that at least Lorna hadn’t been alone during it all, though, and that she’d had friends and extended family to lean on. “That sounds horrible,” she said after a quiet moment. “Well, I’d love to go with you anywhere you’d like to see! The rest of my day is clear, so we can make a day of it. Have you been to the beach yet? The weather is kinda crappy for a beach day, but there’s Atlantis Lake, too, if we want to stay out of the wind. I gotta admit, that the weather here is something to get used to after getting used to being in Los Angeles for so long.” Before that was Pylea and before that Texas. Fred wasn’t used to much wintery weather temperatures. “Oh, and lunch!” She grinned. “Was the food any different? If so, there’s a long list of places we could try.” Laughing slightly she nodded. "One of the first things I did was go to the beach and see the ocean, blue, it was one of those things that, I don't know, just something that I'd wanted to see again." Lorna wasn't sure how to explain it really, but it did make her wish they could all stay there. "I haven't been out to the lake yet though, it could be fun to see how different it is there too," she offered knowing that it might be weird seeing some of it. Lorna wondered if there were some of the same caves still, but she didn't want to bring that up. "Yeah, but weather can be beautiful! Even, the cold stuff." She smiled. "Food wasn't anything exciting, just there for keeping us alive not for fun, so I'd try anywhere for lunch." “The beach is beautiful. I haven’t been here when it’s been warm enough to take a dip in the water, but I’m looking forward to it when the time comes. We can definitely check out the lake. I haven’t been a lot, but I think there might be boats to go out onto the water if it’s not too windy. Or just go exploring on some of the trails in the area there.” Fred nodded. “Alright then, that settles it. Food first, lake next. There’s an absolutely wonderful little place called Snoozle not far down the street. They mostly serve breakfast, but it’s breakfast like you’ve never seen. It’s not the same as my favorite diner back in LA, but it’s definitely my favorite breakfast food place here. And who can turn down an offer of carbs, right?” Nodding, she had memories of swimming when she was younger, but they were the kind that you couldn't decide if you really remembered of you remembered because you'd heard about it so much kind of remember. "I love pancakes, well I remember loving them, and sometimes we managed to do some stuff with food if we got lucky, but pancakes, who doesn't love them? There is so much you can do with them." Lorna was lucky she never worried about what she ate. "So, Snoozle, and go see what we can find at the lake, I like this plan." “It’s a very solid plan,” Fred agreed and started directing them towards the restaurant. There was so much she wanted to show her daughter but also so much she wanted to learn about her too. She hoped that over the comings days, weeks, even months that she’d be able to spend as much time as she could with her. Having a daughter show up was unexpected, especially with someone she wasn’t even close to dating at the time, but it was the best thing that had happened to her here by far. |
