log; mara jade & jacen solo
Who: Mara Jade & Jacen Solo
When: Sometime-ish. We started this in Sept, but I think there's nothing specific to then, so it happened. :)
Where: Coffee me Better
What: Introductions, and training conversations.
Rating: Pretty general.
Status: COMPLETE.
Jacen had a bit of time to waste before he was meeting Tenel Ka and Allana and so he stopped into Coffee me Better to grab a drink and then possibly a table to sit down at as well. He'd been thoughtful about home of recent, the conversation he'd had with Tenel Ka about Anakin and their respective parents, the people who were here or not and all the people he missed from home. Granted, he could be pleased that at the very least, Tenel Ka was here, and his daughter, and his sister. Three of the most important people in his life, and he couldn't really complain on that front could he? As he picked up the latte from the counter he turned and noticed for the first time the red head already seated at one of the tables. Speaking of people from home, Mara Jade qualified, although she was possibly younger than Jacen was, something that felt incredibly strange to him. Still, he hadn't spoken to her as much as he really should have, and he ought to take the time to say Hi and maybe even introduce himself a little. He knew her - or at least he knew an older her well - but she really didn't know him. "Hello, may I join you?" He asked as he stepped up to the table. Mara had been sitting at a table reading when she sensed him come in. She glanced up, watching him as he ordered. Even though they’d both been here for some time, she didn’t feel that she knew him very well. He’d helped her a bit on a couple of missions, helped her to learn more about the Force, but it had to be awkward for him. As much as she wanted to get to know the people from her world, knowing that they were going to be part of the same family in the future felt a little hard to believe. “Sure, have a seat,” she said with a smile when he asked to join her. “I was just reading.” she held up the book. “I picked it up a couple of weeks ago when all the bookshelves were sitting about. It’s not bad.” Jacen slid into the seat across from her with a smile. It seemed as if there was always something in Atlantis whether it be bookshelves sitting about, or turning into teddy bears, or compulsively making beds. In general, these things seemed preferable to many of the things home had thrown at him in the last few years and so he couldn't be too upset about them, but there was always something. "You know I didn't pick one up, maybe I should have," he remarked easily as he reached to take a sip of his latte. "Really I should have looked for something for Allana I suppose," he mused quietly. "What's it about?" She closed the book and laughed. “It’s called Brave New World and strangely enough it sounds a lot like things that we’re perfectly used to. It was written on Earth in their time period called the 1930s and it’s someone’s vision of the future. They had no idea that the things they had dreamed up were actually happening in another galaxy.” Mara had met a lot of people from Earth since being here and it amused her they had thought for such a long time that they were alone in the universe when nothing could be further from the truth. “So how have you been?” she asked, taking a sip of her coffee. “Keeping busy, I’m sure.” They were on different teams but from time to time, they did end up on the same missions. "Sounds fascinating," Jacen said, and it was the truth. While he hadn't read much while he was here, he supposed he could do more of it. Maybe it would even be a good thing. He'd done so much different studying when he was younger, and much less of it since the war - well much less of it and more studying things as he moved among different cultures. It was a different type of searching and a different type of learning. He took a sip of his own coffee and offered a smile. "I've been…" he tilted his head. "Keeping busy, yes, but also I've been enjoying being here with Tenel Ka and with Allana. It's not something we really have the opportunity to do at home… so I've been enjoying having that here. Have you met Allana just yet?" Jacen was incredibly proud of his daughter. Maybe a little too proud, but he'd never expected to have a child of his own and he'd never anticipated how amazing it would make him feel to look down at this little girl and see a flash of Tenel Ka in her eye, or his mother's profile just a little, or just have this connection. He was thrilled to be able to get to know her and mostly he tried not to think about the fact that he wouldn't get that at home. "If not, you should come by sometime. I could introduce you." “No, I haven’t met here,” Mara replied. “I’ve seen her with her mother a few times but I wasn’t near enough to say anything. I would like that.” Knowing exactly where she fit in with Jacen and his family was something she wasn’t sure of. Jacen and Jaina had just been born in her world, and it would be years before they met and before she was part of their family. “How old is she again? I might have heard you say but I can’t remember.” "Then I'll speak to Tenel Ka and we will arrange it," Jacen decided. It would be easy enough and while obviously in this world Mara wasn't his Aunt, she was still family, still related to Allana - it made sense to have her over and to get to know her there. Perhaps they could invite Jaina at the same time. "She's not quite three," he smiled. "She's of an age to recognize people and enjoy spending time with them." Mara smiled. “I look forward to meeting her.” There was a time when Mara wouldn’t have believed she would want children but after meeting Ben and spending time with him for the brief time he was in Atlantis, she realized that it might be something she wanted one day. “I do have something I would like to ask you,” she said. “I know that I eventually become a Jedi although my training appears to have been pretty off and on. There are things that I’ve been trying to do on my own, meditation, things along those lines but I want to learn more. Would you be willing to show me?” Jacen was happy to show off his daughter. One of the surprises of being here had been Tenel Ka and Allana but he loved being a father, and he loved having Tenel Ka with him. It was more than he knew he could expect from home and everything he could have hoped for. He leaned forward curiously as she asked her question and he found himself nodding, although he paused for a moment. "My path hasn't always been as straightforward as some, but I could help you with those things - yes." “I wouldn’t say my path has been straight forward either,” she replied. “And for a long time i hid my abilities so I would say I’d be more open minded than some.” Mara knew that things weren’t always black and white, there were shades of gray and sometimes that was the path one had to walk. “But thank you. I appreciate your willingness to help. At least it’s a beginning.” "I can certainly help with some of the basics," Jacen nodded with a smile. "And I have a lot of ideas as well - I traveled some, and looked at what a lot of different groups do with the Force. Some of what I've learned isn't necessarily strictly from a Jedi code, but I'm happy to share what I have learned." He took a sip from his coffee and sat it down. "We could meet tomorrow if you're free?" Mara didn’t have any problems with learning things that might not strictly be from the Jedi code. Being in Atlantis couldn’t be any farther from home if it tried so she was fine with whatever Jacen wanted to show her. “Yes, that would be great. What time? I usually get up pretty early.” "So do I with a toddler in the house," Jacen mused. "Say six-ish? We'll be done early to have breakfast after." “That sounds good,” she said with a nod. “My team usually meets after breakfast since Rose has a little one to take care of. I’m pretty flexible since it’s just me. I’m looking forward to this.” Mara was glad that they’d run into one another, she’d been meaning to talk to him but hadn’t been sure how to approach him but it seemed as if the Force had its own ideas about things. |
