SAM CARTER ✦ Jonathan Archer
CHATTING LOW COMPLETE |
Sam knew that Archer had someone from home show up and go straight to medical, so when she caught sight of him sitting in commissary on base she took her blue jello and lunch over to where he was sitting. “Mind if I join you?” For the moment, Trip was stable and Archer finally agreed to leave long enough to get something to eat. He hadn’t wanted to go far so he had chosen the commissary and was about to open his sandwich when he heard a somewhat familiar voice. “Hey,” he said, looking up with a smile. “Don’t mind at all. Have a seat.” Taking a seat she placed all of her food just where she liked it. “How is Commander Tucker doing?” she asked after a pause. “He’s stable which is a relief,” Archer replied. “Moving around a little bit but still not completely awake. Dr. McCoy thinks he’ll be fine but it’s going to take some time.” "They didn't opt to pull in one of the people with magic?" Sam asked curiously. She wasn't criticizing or anything, it was purely a curiosity question. “So far they haven’t. They might yet but I think they want to see if he’ll wake up on his own.” The whole magic thing still kind of baffled Archer but if it would help Trip, he wouldn’t complain in the least. Nodding, Sam didn't really have an opinion one way or the other medical science wasn't her strongest set of knowledge. "Well, I'm sure if they think it's needed they'll bring someone in." Archer took a bite of his lunch and nodded. “I’m sure they will. I’d forgotten how amazing this whole place is,” he said, looking around the cafeteria area. “I’m glad that I got the chance to come back.” "It's a little surprising sometimes, seems to be something new and amazing to see every other day or some of the weird things that happen sure keep us all on our toes." She agreed. "I'm glad you're getting more time to spend here as well. I'm sure the members of your crew that are here are happy to have you as well." “I hope so. This is a little strange being in this situation where I’m not in command but we’re getting used to it. I think Kirk’s crew might be having more problems adjusting since in their time, I’m about a hundred years old and an admiral.” he chuckled and took another bite. “Well, you look pretty good for about a hundred years old,” Sam teased before taking a bite of her blue jello. He laughed. “It’s kind of comforting to know I live that long and stay healthy although it’s hard to imagine. Science must have come a long way to make that possible.” “It is weird to think about living past 100, guess with your future and the science it makes a big I difference,” she didn’t add that where she was from what the Goa'uld did to live for centuries. “Apparently I led a very active life for an old man,” he laughed. “I was teaching at the Academy and I wrote some books which is something I always wanted to do. I suppose I could find them here somewhere if I wanted to read them but I’m sure I’d be my own worst critic.” There was also the fact that maybe reading what he’d written wasn’t the best idea. Some things should just be left to themselves. Sam nodded. “You probably could find them, seems everything is here.” She wasn’t sure about reading something like that, but hey, that wasn’t up to her. “It certainly does. I’ve enjoyed watching some of the movies that have come out from the different worlds. I always knew the universe was bigger than we knew, never thought there might be more than one. It’s humbling.” “I know what you mean,” Sam agreed. “I got used to the different planets and in some cases different alternative realities, but this? This is a lot.” “It sure is but I like it here. I’m glad I got the chance to come back,” he looked over at her and smiled. “Especially because I get to see you again.” Well, damn, she knew there was no way to hide the small blush that appeared on her cheeks. “Likewise, I think this place is better off with you here, and I’m really glad that I’m able to get to know you better, and I’ll actually get a chance to get to know your crew better too.” Archer noticed the blush but he didn’t comment on it although he was happy to see it since he took it as a good sign. “I was impressed with everything when we were here before and everyone was a huge help. I’m glad to have the chance to give back.” “You haven’t gotten into too much trouble since being back? Atlantis does have its way with trouble.” Heck, she thought this place made her old life look almost tame. “Well there was the whole Care Bear thing,” he laughed. “I can’t say I really want that to happen again anytime soon but there are certainly worse things that I could have been turned into for a few days.” “Seemed bears were popular for a while, but it had to have been somewhat fun being a bear.” Sam tried to keep a straight face but she was struggling not to smile. Archer gave her a stern look but his eyes were laughing. “It wasn’t that much fun,” he said and then he gave in to the laughter he was holding in. “Okay so it wasn’t all bad once Porthos stopped trying to eat my foot off.” Shaking slightly with laughter she tried not to laugh outright, but she couldn't help it eventually she just started laughing. "Sorry, it's just, you made a cute dog toy." “Thank you. I suppose it was worth it if it made you laugh. You have a nice laugh.” He had a feeling that she wasn’t someone who had had cause to laugh a lot and he liked hearing it. Truth be told, he liked everything about her. Sam could feel herself start to blush at his statement. “Thank you,” she said slightly nervously, she shouldn’t be nervous about that she was well past the age for that kind of thing, but she still was. |
