Dimitri Belikov ✦ Rose Belikova
Talking about stuff Low Rating/Some Kissing Complete Log |
Of course it wasn’t true, everyone knew that whoever was putting out this paper was making up most of what went into it. Although there were a few things here and there that had an element of truth to them. He knew that the things about Neal and Lissa were true to a point but the stuff about Rose? True, he wasn’t the most social person but that had never seen to bother Rose before. It was also not as easy to go out since they had to find a sitter for Ivan but maybe he’d been wrong and Rose needed more of a social life. The only way he was going to get any answers was to talk to her. He’d always tried to be honest with her even when it hurt and he intended to do so now. Dimitri knew that she loved him, he didn’t question that but maybe he wasn’t entirely the person she needed. He’d been sitting on the couch reading when the thing popped up on his tablet and as badly as he wanted to ignore it, he couldn’t. By the time he was finished, he had no idea what to think. Rose was putting Ivan down for a nap and when she came back into the room, he handed her his tablet, not saying a word, watching her as she read it. Looking over the article, Rose just snorted and rolled her eyes before throwing the tablet on the couch with enough force to suggest she might be a little more bothered by the article than she’d let on. Sleeping with Damon wasn’t exactly her proudest moment, even if neither of them had technically been doing anything wrong at the time. It also hasn’t been something she felt the need to tell anything about, but another gossip bitch had outed the event in a similar way in Breck which made her wonder if it was someone who’d been in both places doing this. How the hell had they gotten their hands on the security footage? Looking over at Dimitri, she tried to guess what he was thinking. The rest of it was crap, of course. Yeah, he was kind of antisocial while she frequently liked to be the life of the party, but sometimes it was kind of nice to stay in with him and there definitely wasn’t anything going on with anyone else. “Well, at least they got the antisocial part right,” she joked. It probably wasn’t the best timing, but she didn’t really know what else to say. “Does that bother you?” he asked. “I’m trying, I really am but I know I’m not there yet.” Dimitri watched her for a moment, wondering what she was thinking although he knew she was probably more upset than she was letting on. He took a deep breath and ran a hand through his hair. “The thing about Damon. I know I wasn’t there, there was another version of me so that doesn’t bother me so much.” He paused for a moment and leaned forward, staring at the wall in front of him for a moment before he looked back at Rose. “You told me when I came here that you’d learned that you and Jim were together in some other place and had a family but you didn’t remember that. I didn’t even let that bother me because you didn’t remember and I know you love me but sometimes…..” he sighed. “Sometimes I see you talking to him on the network or in person even like the night we hunted that damned clown and I can see it. I can see how the two of you would be attracted to each other. He’s completely opposite of me. The type of guy that I would have imagined you with. I trust you, you have to understand that first of all, but I know I’m not easy to be with sometimes and there are a lot of things that have happened to you that I have no idea about and maybe it’s time we talked about that. I’d rather hear it from you, Roza, than from that newspaper.” he picked up her hand and laced their fingers together. He had no intentions of letting her leave the room and put this off but he also wanted her to know that no matter what, he loved her and he wasn’t going anywhere. Rose opened her mouth to answer him, but before she could, he was talking again. She let him keep going even though she really wanted to interject, but when he took her hand, she didn’t pull away. “Are you kidding me?” she asked him, shaking her head when he was finally done. “You actually believe this piece of shit?” Okay, so part of it was true, but that was beside the point. Most of what was in the article was bullshit. She definitely hadn’t been hand-feeding Oliver and, okay, yeah, she and Jim had gone dancing once or twice, but there was definitely nothing happening there. “Nothing is going on between me and Jim. Or me and anyone else. You are the one I want to be with. It’s always been you, practically since the moment we met.” Sighing, she stepped back and turned toward the window, trying to think about what she wanted to say. “There wasn’t just one other version of you in Breck,” she admitted finally. “There were more like 5. You came and went so many times, I started to lose track. Damon’s girlfriend was there, too, but there was one time when you’d both vanished right around the same time. We went out, we had way too much to drink and we hooked up, just that one time. It was stupid and I’m not really proud of it, but it was just that one time.” Dimitri stared at her for a moment and then rubbed a hand across the back of his neck. “Five? I guess that’s why they call it a multiverse,” it was hard to comprehend but he’d seen enough during his time in Atlantis so know that it was real. There were a lot of universes out there and Rose had been in more than one. “That must have been awful, the whole coming and going thing, probably from different time points I’m guessing?” She had told him that he’d turned and been restored which was how she was able to conceive a child, that much he knew but he hadn’t lived through that and was glad that he hadn’t because he couldn’t imagine turning Strigoi and hurting her or anyone that he cared about. “Roza…..” he took a deep breath, unsure of how to say what he was thinking. “I need to know. Did I hurt you? I know I told you that I didn’t want to know about the things I did when I was Strigoi but I feel like there is something that bothers you about that time. And I’m not angry about Damon, we’ve all done things we aren’t proud of and I get why it happened. I just need to understand what happened between us there because I love you. You and Ivan and Tai are my world even if I still need to work on my relationship with her but I don’t want to make the same mistakes so I need to know. Please.” Rose just shook her head. “You were strigoi, of course there are things that bother me about that time,” she countered. “We got through it, okay? It was rough. You had a hard time moving on with life after Lissa restored you , but you did it and we finally got our chance to be together.” Moving close to him again, Rose rested her palms on his chest as she looked up at him. “If you really want to know everything, I’ll tell you,” she told him. “But you and me? We’re good. We’re great. I swear, you don’t have anything to worry about.” He rested his hands on top of hers and leaned down to kiss her softly. Dimitri knew she was telling him the truth, he didn’t doubt that for a moment. “I know. I just…..well sometimes I worry because we are different in so many ways but then in the important ways, we’re the same.” He paused for a moment, wondering if he really wanted to know about what had happened in Breckinridge and then he nodded. “I do want to know. I don’t want there to be anything between us. Even if it’s hard for me to hear it and for you to say it, I think we need to do this but rest assured that no matter what, I’m not going anywhere. I don’t want to leave you and I’m not going to unless I’m taken against my will and I would put up a hell of a fight.” “All of it?” she wondered, “Because you said before you didn’t want to know about the things you did as a Strigoi...” Even now, after all the time that had passed, it wouldn’t be easy to talk about. She’d do it, but she wanted to be sure he really wanted to know everything. “I know you wouldn’t leave on purpose,” she added. That wasn’t what worried her. It was the glitches, the people she was sure hadn’t wanted to leave who had disappeared anyway. With every month that had passed since their arrival almost a year ago, she felt safer, but every time she saw those big departure lists, she couldn’t help thinking about how either of them could still get sent back one day. “Let’s sit down,” he said and taking her hand, led her to the couch. “I mainly want to know about Breck, the different versions of me. I know that if you left and came back so many times, it would hard for me. Especially if you didn’t remember things when you returned. I guess me coming here felt like that for you. Although the fact that you were pregnant with my child was a wonderful surprise even if the reason it was possible isn’t something I want to think about.” Dimitri paused and looked into her eyes. “I love you, I know that there is nothing between you and anyone else. It’s just that sometimes I feel like I’m missing something because you’ve been places that I haven’t. Like with Tai,” he shook his head. “I think I upset her when I mentioned that we had had pictures made with Ivan and I didn’t mean to. It’s just that I don’t know what to say to her or how she feels about me, I know we adopted her and that doesn’t bother me but I must be very different from the father that she remembers.” Looking down, Rose nodded. “It wasn’t easy,” she admitted, “but it mostly was just that every time I got used to whatever version of you was there, you were gone again. No one had a choice if they left or stayed. It wasn’t like here. We just never knew what was going to happen. I guess shit happens here, too, but it’s been almost a year and we’re both still here..” She looked up at him again, shaking her head. “Tai has been through losing you as many times as I have, but you’re still you. Yeah, she remembers both of us a lot older, but we’re still her parents and she’s still our kid. You just have to show her that you want to be in her life, no matter how weird the age thing is. We didn’t have Ivan at home in her time, so it has to be weird for her. I guess I wouldn’t blame her if she felt left out when we don’t include her in things like that.” “You’re her dad, Dimitri, and she loves you. Did you ever stop to think maybe she doesn’t know how you feel about her?” Dimitri listened to her, trying to imagine how difficult all the coming and going had been for her. “I see why you weren’t too sure of me when we first got here. I hope you’re not disappointed with the version of me that showed up.” He was starting to relax more and he couldn’t help but tease her just a bit but then he grew more serious when she mentioned their daughter. “When you were gone to the magic school, we played Quidditch together and that was fun. It was the first time I had really spent any time with her since she got here and I liked that. Then it was over and I…...I didn’t know what to do after that. You’re right though, I never thought about her not knowing how I felt about her. I want to know her, Roza, I want all four of us to be a family. You know how important family is to me and how I feel about what makes a family. I’ve just done a really bad job of letting Tai know that.” “Some of the other versions of you-“ Rose hesitated, knowing it wouldn’t be easier for him to hear and not really wanting to tell him. For her own sake she wouldn’t have, but for Tai’s, well, she’s do anything for her daughter. “They weren’t really around for Tai. Between that and the constant coming and going, I think it’s probably easy for her to second guess how you feel about her. Especially now that we have Ivan. I don’t know. I guess I wouldn’t blame her if she thought we loved him more because he’s our flesh and blood. So not true, I know, but I think we’re going to have to show her that.” Squeezing his hand, Rose offered her husband a smile. “I’m sure of you now,” she assured him. “And I know you’ll work it out with Tai, too. Just spend some time with her. Finding things she likes is easy because she’s basically this weird mix of both of us. Grab some food with her, do some sporty shit. You might have to be the one asking her to hang out at first, but if you show her you want to be around her, she’ll respond to that.” It wasn’t an easy dynamic when your kid was so close to your own age and Rose as stop figuring it out, too, but she still thought it was pretty good advice. It made sense. Just hearing about all the comings and goings was enough to make Dimitri’s head spin. “I can understand that,” he said. “And the fact that we have Ivan probably does feel odd for her. I want to know her though, to show her that she means a lot to me, that we’re all a family. I want to make this work for all of us.” he touched her cheek and smiled. “I do love you and I will try everyday to show you that you can be sure of me. I want Tai to see that too and I will do my best to find a way to make her see that.” Rose couldn’t help smiling at his words, even if she hated to think that piece of shit gossip article had made him question anything between them. Maybe it was good that they were talking about this stuff, but that didn’t mean it had a point. That didn’t mean she hadn’t been perfectly happy with what she had here with him. “You don’t have anything to prove to me,” she told him before her smile turned a little more mischievous, “but, hey, if that means I get a little one one one attention, who am I to complain?” Smirking a little, she leaned in to kiss him. He smiled and kissed her. “I have no problem with giving you all the one on one attention you would like. Although we might have to clear it with your other boyfriends first.” Dimitri couldn’t resist teasing her a little bit now because even though what he had read had bothered him at first, he knew it wasn’t true. He knew Rose loved him and didn’t want to be with anyone else, just as much as he loved her. The life they shared here was a gift, something that he couldn’t imagine them having at home even though Rose had told him that they did eventually end up together. They did end up together at home, but it wasn’t the same. Here, they didn’t have to put another race first. They didn’t have to put duty before their relationship in Atlantis. Sometimes one of them was called out on a mission - her more than him since she was leading one of the teams - and they did have Ivan to take care of, but their lives were their own here so much more than they had ever been at home. In Atlantis, no one batted an eye at two guardians being married and they didn't have to worry about anyone wanting to study Ivan for being the product of such a coupling. Rose loved the life they shared together at home, but she had to admit what they had here was ever better. “Is that right?” she teased, grinning at him for a moment. “Because I think I need to show you how much I really don’t mind staying home with my antisocial husband.” “Your antisocial husband would enjoy that a lot,” he said, returning her grin. “And he’d also like to apologize to you for ever having one second of doubt. I love you, Roza and I know you feel the same way.” He brushed her hair back from her face and kissed her. “So exactly how are you planning on showing your antisocial husband how much you enjoy being with him?” “Oh, I have a lot of ideas,” she assured him as her lips curved into one of her more devious smirks. From his answering grin, she really didn’t think he’d mind just letting her demonstrate what she had in mind. If he did have any lingering doubts, she planned to show him he really had nothing to worry about. |
