Bucky Barnes and Tony Stark
March 15 - Tony's Apartment
Winter Soldier attacks Iron Man
Medium for violence
Complete |
Breaking into the vault and retrieving the Notebook had been a success. While there hadn’t been as much damage done during his attack at the Intake offices, James did make sure that the vault did sustain some damage so that the agents wouldn’t too easily be able to repair it. His scheduled meeting with Alexander hadn’t taken place yet, so he still had the Notebook on his person when Atlantis agents managed to track down his location. He hadn’t expected that he would be located so quickly, nor that they would come so prepared. The Notebook was retaken, so he needed to make some adjustments to ensure that they weren’t able to secure it again in another vault. He had made contact with Alexander to let him know his status and had been given orders to do what was necessary to ensure that protections of the Notebook and maintenance of the vault couldn’t double down or be repaired quickly. He knew that going back to the vault was a risky move even for him when security was likely to have been increased and on full alert, so he decided to take an indirect approach to the objective. Find one of if not the primary resource for building the vault and eliminate him. Tony Stark. It wouldn’t be The Winter Soldier’s first encounter with the man or his family. Unless they’d been specifically removed from his memory, James remembered his previous missions. He remembered Howard Stark and his son. He’d been given data about Iron Man some time ago and knew many of his general habits, affiliations, and capabilities. He knew that he was fully capable of getting the vault back online. So, instead of confronting Tony at the command offices or even on the street for others to intervene, James let himself into Tony’s apartment during a night when he had already confirmed that his roommate was working late at her job as a bartender. He stood in the shadows in the corner by the front door and waited patiently for the man to return home. Tony had spent the last couple of days absorbed in his work. Ever since Barnes had broken in, he had been evaluating his methods, and making sure they couldn’t be repeated. As well as reinforcing the entire vault. It was exhausting work, and all he wanted was to get back to his apartment, and fall into bed. He probably should have expected it. He knew what Barnes was capable of, after all. And, especially after he’d been activated. But, he opened the front door, switching on the light. Completely unaware of who was waiting for him in the darkened room. The moment the light flipped on, James made his move. The gun that he carried was holstered, but he held a knife in his hand and rushed forward in attack. Tony must have heard the initial movement because he had turned slightly just before he struck him with the knife. Having the element of surprise was key, but Tony was also alone here. He had no backup. Lashing out with his metal arm, James shoved Tony hard into the opposite wall where he fell to the floor. He knelt over the other man and used his metal hand to tighten around his throat. As with Howard on that road that night, James’ eyes showed no recognition of the man he'd been tasked to kill. Tony didn’t even have time for a witty quip. And, he hated that in a fight. He’d heard a sound, started turning towards it. And, then the next thing he knew, he was being thrown into a wall, and then strangled. In a move that seemed all too familiar. He stared up at the blank eyes of the man above him. And, recognised that look. It was the look of the man who killed his parents. And, it was finally then, that Tony actually let himself accept properly, that Bucky clearly wasn’t himself, then or now. It would be an incredible irony if he was killed like this. And he knew it. But, he really hated that idea, and while struggling futilely with the metal hand at his throat with one hand. He summoned the gauntlet of his armor with the other. Quickly using it to blast the other man off of him. As he lay there gasping for breath, he managed to summon the rest of his armor. So, he at least had some protection from the man’s attacked. Even as the blood began to rush back to his head. James suddenly fell backwards with a sudden force from the blast of the armor. It hit him hard enough to send him skidding back several feet and long enough to allow the other man to arm himself with the rest of his suit. James hadn’t wanted to draw attention with guns or loud blasts, but he had no choice. Launching himself at Tony, James sent both of them back into a wall hard enough that there would need to be some reconstruction later. He pulled a gun out with his good hand and aimed directly for the center of the suit and fired several times. He was at point blank range, and there were marks made, but mostly the bullets ricocheted off of the suit into other parts of the room. He punched at the suit with his metal arm over and over again until he was blasted backwards across the room. James shot at Tony until the clip was out in the gun and then tossed it to the side. His chance to take out Tony quickly was gone the second he was able to get into the suit. Backup would be on its way soon. He spotted the window near Tony and needed to get past him in order to escape through it. Tony took the brunt of the attack, while he was still catching his breath. But, knew the suit could take whatever the Winter Soldier threw at it. It had before after all. That didn’t mean it didn’t hurt. But, he could ignore that in the meantime. He realised as soon as Bucky ran out of ammo, that he’d realised his chance was gone. But, Tony also realised that his only exit was the window at that point, and the only barrier between the soldier and freedom, was himself. Luckily, he’d finally managed to recover from being strangled, and readied himself for the other man’s charge. Knowing that if they managed to capture him, they could bring him back to himself. As Bucky charged past him, he managed to get a few hits in. But, with a well placed shove with his metal arm, the WInter Soldier managed to throw him into a wall. Shaking Tony enough, to give him time to get out of the window and away. As soon as he got to his feet, Tony was out of the window. But, the other man was nowhere to be found. “Well, shit.” He grumbled. “FRIDAY, put a call into Command, will you.” |
