“Really, I wish Atlantis would understand that a discriminating British palate needs Jaffa Cakes to survive.” Jemma gestured toward the Keebler Fudge Rounds on her countertop and then to the accoutrement around it. “Because I can add all the orange marmalade to a sandwich but it still isn’t the same.” How could she be a prickly field agent and reserve med … person … with sticky fingers from her poor person’s Jaffa Cake?
She paused for comic impact, turning the full force of her smile on Daisy. She’d got a certain sort of hell for being a lot less than fun recently. And granted she didn’t feel like being fun. But she could certainly put on for her very best friend in any world.
“You might not know the difference, though. Americano that you are.”
Daisy laughed and shook her head. “You know Atlantis has everything, right?” she teased her friend. I’m sure if we can walk into a bar and order a Cardassian Sunrise, you can definitely get some real Jaffa Cakes somewhere.”
Daisy probably hadn’t been much fun herself lately, with everything that had happened in Atlantis. Losing Fitz had been hard. Losing everyone had been and her position near the top of the tech department meant she felt kind of responsible for the glitches when they happened. Between those and the arena, she hadn’t been in much of a fun mood. She certainly wasn’t going to hold it against Jemma, either, but she was glad they’d found some time to just hang out.
“Jaffa Cakes have been invisible to me, then. Perhaps an Atlantean prank!” she said, finishing up the last of her ‘homemade’ sandwich cookies. As much as she raised her minute fuss, doing things like this made her feel like a part of something that was a bit more real. Sticky fingers and all. Sitting next to Daisy, she nearly said so before narrowing her eyes at her friend.
“Just get it over with and go public with Tripp. You’re very cute and it’s very obvious.”
“I’m sure I don’t know what you mean,” Daisy said, feigning a little bit of innocence, but not too much. She obviously did know and it wasn’t like she was hiding anything - she just didn’t feel like a big announcement. Maybe she was afraid to jinx it or something. Her track record with men hadn’t been the greatest. Mostly, they either turned out to be evil or die. There might have been a part of her that worried if she was more open about her budding thing with Trip, he might disappear, too.
