THEO MONTGOMERY & CHARLIE MONTGOMERY
PG | COMPLETE
Theo stared hard at hologram that sat next to her bed. After a beat, she replayed the message that aired when she first woke up in this strange new place.
Atlantis.
Theo scoffed as the message continued to play, looking for anything in the message that didn’t add up. It wasn’t too difficult, nothing about this added up to her. Even with Charlie, her half-sister, doing her best to reassure her that this was all real. A war? Theo wasn’t a soldier, and the last time there had been a war in her world she had been too young to fight.
The job itself did intrigue Theo enough and she supposed if she was truly needed here, then she was at least grateful that she wouldn’t be on the front line. All of this seemed so mad and as she waited for her sister to arrive a part of her still wondered if this was all a dream. The pounding in her chest that she initially felt when she first woke up started to slow down. At least there were people here in Atlantis she knew, that much did give her some relief. Knowing that Charlie would be here any minute, she composed herself before making her way to the living room.
Theo Montgomery read on the announcement. Charlie blinked a few times not believing it. That couldn’t be possible, could it? Her little sister, well, one of her sisters. “Come on Gizmo,” she said to the dog she’d adopted. “You get to meet an Aunt.” Getting a leash on Gizmo they headed towards the house number that she found when looking her sister up.
Charlie didn’t bother knocking, she didn’t worry too much of her sisters' roommates being upset after everything that had happened in Atlantis seeing family and skipping formalities seemed okay to her.
“Theo?” She called out heading into the house.
Theo turned and smiled as Charlie walked in. She didn’t know why, but for some reason she thought Charlie would look different. In a way, she did. After some time talking to one another on the network, Theo knew that Charlie had been here for a while. Charlie certainly looked the same but different somehow. Theo wondered if this place would have a similar effect on her, depending on if and how long she would be staying.
“It’s good to see you, Charlie. This is um.” She paused to take a look around. The window to her left showing off a beautiful picture of island paradise. “Strange to say the least.” She took a step forward and offered her sister a hug. “Still, good to know there’s a few friendly faces around here.”
Charlie didn’t waste too much time wrapping her sister in a tight hug before letting go. “Oh, this is Gizmo,” she said pointing down to the few month old Vizsla puppy. It was a little overwhelming having family here.
“Yeah, there are a lot of people from home here. “Tracey is here,” Charlie mentioned first, not surprisingly given Tracey was her bestest mate. “We are a bit overrun with Gryffindor’s.” She shrugged with a small smile. “Most of the Spinnet’s are here, a group from the past, well, Harry Potter’s parents and friends, oh! Professor Sinistra is here and she’s young, which is a bit weird still. Lucian Bole, his ego is still intact.” Charlie added with the playful tease to another friend.
“Yeah, you could say Atlantis is a bit… well, Atlantis is a bit strange.” Charlie looked down not really sure she wanted to bring up the rest of it. “But, want a tour?”
Theo looked impressed. “That is quite a gathering but-” She paused. “People from the past, a young Professor Sinistra.” She let the sentence hang as she let her mind process on this information. “That’s strange, but kind of exciting too. How many people can say they’ve met someone from the past?” It put a whole new interesting twist on the question of whom you would like to share a meal with.
“Anthony and Emilia are here, I did see that.” Smiling. It was good to know she had friends here as well. Theo couldn’t begin to imagine what it must feel like to arrive in such a place without knowing a single soul. “Certainly sounds strange, but yes, I’d love a tour. No time like the present, right?” Theo took a moment before getting more serious. “And this war and everything. I’m guessing since you’ve been here a while you decided to stay. I can’t say for certain I want to stay, but I think it makes sense to stick around and see everything for myself before making a decision.”
Charlie thought about her question for a moment. “You really never know,” she offered waving hand. “Only because people have been to other places like Atlantis with loads of people from loads of different worlds but not exactly Atlantis, it gets confusing.” She admitted.
Charlie faltered at the comment. “Yeah, I don’t have as much time as I usually do, there are some things happening right now that sort of, well they keep me busy.” Charlie had never told Theo or let her see the magical inventor side. She kept everyone except for Elizabeth and Tracey in the dark at home. She knew Anthony and Adrian suspected that she did more than be a typical party girl, but no one else actually knew.
“But, we’ll get you a tour, and make sure you’re settled, as much as you can be, before I go back to work. Oh! We’ll go to Dooblers for work, I think Duke is working tonight and I can twist his arm to tell you anything else you want to know.”
“I’ve heard some things after I made my post. It’s troublesome to say the least.” Theo frowned but there wasn’t much that she could do about it this very minute. Instead she focused on her sister. She smiled at Charlie’s comment. “Dooblers, huh? Alright. We can stop there and maybe show me some of your other favourite places? I have a feeling you’ll know all the best spots.”
Charlie frowned a little bit. “I’m not sure how much time I’ll have today, but I promise the second everyone is back safe I’ll have more time,” she still kept how much she was involved in trying to figure out what was going on to herself.
“But, there are loads of people here I think you’ll get along really well with, loads speak tons of languages and you are just going to love all the books and oh, the lourve is here!” She spoke leading her sister towards Dooblers. “Basically, anything you could imagine is here.”
“That’s no problem, I understand.” Thankfully someone was able to fill her in through the network what was going on. At the moment she was a little unsure of how she could help but she also wanted to take a moment and see how the others operated under such serious conditions. So far it certainly wasn’t a ringing endorsement for her to stay, but if Charlie was staying then it was worth giving this place more consideration.
Theo smiled but her eyes certainly perked up at Charlie’s mention of the lourve. “Is it? That’s amazing!” Definitely a point in the favour of staying. “I hope you’re right. It would be fun to meet new people, especially if they’re from other worlds, if what I’m told is true. It’d be fun to learn a language not from Earth.” That part did excite her a little, Theo liked the idea of the challenge.
“Yup, there are loads of things here that will keep you entertained for ages.” Charlie didn’t think they would ever have time to explore them all. Maybe, someday. She wasn’t sure.
As they got to Dooblers Charlie held the door open. “Is Duke working?” She asked the first person she saw, she got a nod and was told he was in the back. “Great!” Charlie turned her attention back to Theo.
“Oh, you’ll have an endless chance to learn as many languages as you want to,” that wasn’t something Charlie liked but she was glad that Theo would get a chance to explore it. “This is Dooblers,” she explained pointing to the bar. “My housemate and friend Duke works here and you’ll love him!” Well, Charlie didn’t know for sure if Theo would like Duke or not.
Theo waited patiently but she did feel a bit of excitement with the idea of learning new languages.
“Well if you like them, I’m sure I will to.” She responded with a smile. “I’m excited to learn more about your life here.”
“Speaking of which,” Charlie said looking up as Duke walked in. “This is Duke Crocker, I have to get to work, but he will take good care of you!” Charlie said with a smile at Duke who just nodded his head to her.
“I love that you are here Theo, promise a better catch up soon!” Charlie smiled giving her little sister a quick hug. “Thanks, Duke, owe you one!” She added with a smile before dashing off.
Theo turned to Duke and gave him a small smile. She turned to Charlie and returned the hug and tempted to ask her to stay. “We’ll catch up soon.” Theo agreed. She wanted to ask Charlie what she was doing but maybe that was a question for another time.
There was an uncomfortable silence as she watched her sister leave before turning to Duke. “So. What’s good around here?”
