“What am I supposed to wear?” Bella asked as she flopped down on Jill’s bed. Bella had told Jill all about how she’d awkwardly asked someone she didn’t know to the dance coming up in a couple of days.
“It’s not exactly a date, I don’t know the guy, and I don’t even know if I’d want a date right now, with anyone, but it’s not a date, which is a good thing, but I don’t know what to wear to a not-date dance.” She said sitting back up with a small frown.
“Not-dates are a perfectly valid choice,” Jill offered with a sympathetic smile. “I’m going with Adrian, but that’s definitely not a real date.” She laughed softly and shook her head. She was pretty sure Adrian thought of her as a little sister.
“That doesn’t mean we can’t both look good, though! We could go shopping for something new if you don’t think you have something in your closet!” It was a little short notice to design and make anything that quickly, with everything else they had going on.
Sitting up she looked at Jill’s closet, even though nothing in her friends closet would fit her. The height differences alone made that a little bit difficult. “I guess we could, try something new, see what we come up with.” Bella shrugged as she thought about it. “I still wonder how awkward this guy must think I am, I didn’t even really say hello.”
“I think people are used to a little weirdness in Atlantis,” Jill offered. She knew that Sirius hadn’t been here very long, but it was long enough that he’d already been to a couple of parties and seen a few of the weird things that tended to happen in Atlantis.
“Yeah, I guess,” Bella said as she shrugged, she still felt awkward asking someone she didn’t know and who hadn’t been around long.
“It’s super weird, I know,” Jill sympathized. She’d luckily had Adrian to ask so she hadn’t ended up asking a stranger and she couldn’t blame Bella for feeling awkward.
“Yeah, it is,” Bella agreed. “Anyways, should we go shopping?”
“Definitely,” Jill agreed. “Now or we could go tomorrow or Monday?” They still had a few days until the dance, so hopefully, that meant plenty of time to find a dress.
“I can go now, I mean if that works for you, if not Monday would work.” She offered.
“Sure!” Jill said, nodding. “Now works for me, too!” She didn’t have any other plans for a while and shopping sounded fun.
Grabbing her jacket Bella made sure it was wrapped tightly around her before they headed off.
