Jemma and Leo FitzSimmons
PG - Fade to Black | Complete
Once Jemma had had a chance to think about it, she had a sneaking suspicion about what was wrong with her. And, why her tea was tasting a bit off. And, it wasn’t the milk, or the tea. So, she stopped at the drug store on her way home, after picking up a little box which could decide everything in their lives for the next 18 years. Not that she could say she was surprised, Philip was born in 2018 afterall. And, while she and Fitz hadn’t been officially trying, they were not trying either. She’d stopped taking the pill shortly after the wedding. They had no desire to wait, after all.
She took the test into the bathroom, and was sat waiting for the little line to appear when she heard Fitz come home. “I’m in the bedroom, Fitz.” She called to her husband.
Ever since they’d gotten her back from the kidnappers Fitz had been extra attentive towards Jemma. He would always worry about her but in recent months that worry had been a little more present than normal. Especially when she had commented about feeling a little funny. He couldn’t help but worry about her, she was his world and he would be lost without her. Fitz tried not to coddle her but he had a tendency to fuss over her when he knew she wasn’t feeling well. It hadn’t even occurred to him that she could be pregnant, he knew she’d stopped taking the pill after they’d gotten married but it had sort of slipped his mind with everything that had happened since.
He’d gone out to get a few things for dinner, returning to find the living room empty he wondered where Jemma was just as her voice came from the other room. His first thought was she was feeling ill and had decided to lie down so he walked through to check on her. “You okay, Jem?” he asked as he walked in to find her sitting on the bed. His eyes searching her face for any signs of distress meant he didn’t really notice anything else.
Jemma smiled up at her husband as soon as he entered the room. He was her world, and if she was right, their world was about to get just a little bit bigger. “I’m fine, Fitz. I just think I’ve worked out why I’ve been feeling a bit iffy lately.” She nodded towards the test on the bed.
She really hoped she was right. They needed some good news after everything that had happened. And, starting a family with her best friend was all she had wanted for a very long time.
Seeing his wife smiling at him instantly made everything better, he could have had the worst day ever and seeing her wonderful smile made it brighter. For a second he didn’t understand what she was saying and then his eyes drifted to the bed. “Oh,” he said softly, apparently frozen to the spot for a moment.
“How long until we know?” he asked, moving to sit on the bed beside her. They knew there were children in their future but with everything that had happened recently they hadn’t really been trying. It seems fate might have taken matters into its own hands there.
Jemma automatically reached for her husband’s hand, lacing their fingers together. Before checking her watch. “It should be ready now. I was just waiting for you.”
Keeping one hand laced with Fitz’s, she reached for the test, to be confronted with that tell-tale blue line. Beaming, she turned back to her husband. “We’re pregnant, Fitz”. She didn’t even know it was possible to be this happy.
Fitz immediately laced his fingers with Jemma’s when she reached for his hand. His eyes on her as she checked her watch. “Talk about timing I suppose.”
It was a lame attempt at a joke but he was nervous. He felt his heart hammering in his chest and honestly it felt like time stopped before she turned to him with the biggest smile he’d ever seen on her face. “Really? Oh, Jemma, that’s fantastic,” he said, his own grin so wide it was going to make his face ache but he was so happy he didn’t even care.
Still grinning, Jemma threw her arms around Fitz, pulling him into a kiss. Pulling back just enough to say, “We’re going to be parents, husband.” She was never going to get tired of being able to say that...husband. She couldn’t help but wonder if it would ever have been this easy for them if they hadn’t come here. But, she knew without a doubt, that this was exactly where she wanted to be.
His own arms went around Jemma, pulling her closer as he kissed her back. He couldn’t stop grinning when she pulled back. “We are, wife.” There were still times where he had to pinch himself because he couldn’t believe they were actually married. Things back home had always seemed to get in the way of their relationship but here they had been given the chance to have everything they wanted.
Fitz reached up and brushed her hair behind her ear, still smiling broadly at his wife. “You do realise this means you’re not allowed to work too hard anymore. Right?”
“I know, I know.” Jemma agreed, knowing that this was the one reason she wouldn’t argue with. Not that she couldn’t still work. But, the hours that she could be known to work, could be harmful for the baby. Especially later on in her pregnancy.
“We should go to medical tomorrow to get it all checked out properly, of course. And, decide when to tell everyone.” She couldn’t help but kiss him again. “But, first. First we should celebrate. Just the two of us.”
He didn’t for one second thing she’d do anything that could be harmful for the baby, even now in the early stages of her pregnancy. “I promise not to smother you too much if I think you’re working too much,” he said, still smiling widely.
“Yes, of course. We need to go and get everything checked out. And don’t they say you should wait at least three months?” He kissed her back gently. “I think that’s an excellent idea, how would you like to celebrate? Anything you want to do and we’ll do it.”
Jemma grinned broadly at her husband, “Anything? Oh, I think I have some ideas.” She said, pulling him back to her, capturing his mouth with her own.
Fitz grinned back at her, it was good to see her so happy. “I think you should show me these ideas.” He met her in the kiss, his arm around her waist pulling her a little closer. He was more than happy to indulge his wife, he always had been and that would never change.
