He kissed her, telling her in that kiss that he wanted to be with her. That he wanted more than a friendship, more than a partnership. His lips sealed around hers and his tongue pressed with an urgency into her mouth. She was willing, pliant in his arms for a long, joyful moment. But then she hesitated, stopped kissing him back and then pushed him away with both hands.
He died a little bit at that moment. He knew that he'd failed to convince her that they belonged together, as a couple. He shook his head. "I want this to work between us. I want there to be an us." His voice was hoarse as he spoke with raw, emotion laced words. He bent his head, smoothing his hand over his brow.
"You have to know how I feel about you, Bones. Right? I mean, Sweets isn't wrong. Not about how I feel for you."
