Alicia smiled, taking his offered hand and shaking it. Her hand was so small in comparison to his, but it was warm and not sweaty like Matt's had been in the beginning. He was so cute when they first started dating. He was nervous and his hands would sweat and when she'd hold his hand, she would wrinkle her nose in that way he always thought was cute. But, Matt was gone now and Alicia had to let go, no matter how hard it was. She missed him so much and hated to know he had gone through whatever it was to become one of them. Sometimes Alicia wondered if they should've killed him. It was a harsh thought and it broke her heart to even think something like that, but it had to be better than turning into one of them, being something that was...no longer human. She had thought about this stuff way too much.
"Zombies, yeah." Alicia shrugged, like it was no big deal. But the truth was, it was a huge deal. Los Angeles, as she'd always known it, was no more. "It was some kind of virus or...infection. At first it was just like, people just getting sick, but then they were turning into these..." Alicia pressed her lips together and looked up at Sam. "They weren't human. They weren't who they were anymore. My boyfriend, Matt, he..." She took a deep breath, closing her eyes for a few seconds to make herself not cry. There was no use crying, nothing was bringing Matt back. "I don't know if this virus was anywhere else or if it was just LA."
Alicia had wondered about that for some time. Was it only in Los Angeles or had it spread through the whole state of California or God, even the entire United States. How long before it got here? She really hoped her family was okay. They were on the boat, zombies couldn't swim, could they?
"No, you aren't keeping me." She shook her head, smiling at him. "I don't really know anyone here. My roommate, she's nice but she's been kind of in and out. I've mostly just..." Alicia held up her bag containing the books she'd just purchased. "But, don't let me keep you if you need to go." She had to admit, she was enjoying talking to him. She'd only just met him but he seemed like a really nice guy. "So, where are you from Sam? How did you end up here?" It had to be the same way she did.
