Hanna wasn't a great actress. At least, not in Spencer's opinion. She knew that Hanna could fake it with the best of them with other people, people who didn't know her as well. Hell, it was one of the advantages of having a teenage Hanna around instead of the adult version. Spencer wasn't as close to Hanna anymore as she used to be but she knew this version almost as well as she knew herself and she knew when Hanna wasn't coping.
"No problem." Spencer nodded at her. It was impossible to be mad at Hanna when she looked like this. Hanna and Aria were the strongest among them for sure. Spencer had spent her time in Radley and Emily had been the weakest link from the beginning, stronger now thanks to Mona's unsolicited guidance. Aria and Hanna were the tough ones. They were little but they were big. Hell, Hanna was tougher because she not only survived Ali but became the new and improved version of her.
"It's okay to be scared, you know," Spencer said. "I am. I'm terrified. First, Charlotte's here and not nearly far enough from A to make me comfortable." Spencer had lied up on the stand and said she was comfortable with Charlotte's release. She did it for Ali but she mostly did it because she had five years of separation from that. Hanna didn't have that right now and neither, more importantly, did Charlotte. Spencer didn't feel safe with her walking the streets and even worse....
"And Angelus is even scarier. He's different than anything we've ever faced before but we made it through Charlotte, we can make it through him too."
Honestly, fuck Caleb. He was never getting in between Spencer and her friends. Her love for Hanna was much stronger than her love for any man would probably ever be. She felt like a total asshole for ignoring Hanna for so long and immediately realized that she should probably stop doing that to Emily, Alison and Toby too. Caleb she could decide on later. Right now Hanna was important.
