Cady choked a little bit on her biscuit when he asked her if anything interesting had happened when he was gone. She was already caught up in anxiety at the idea of having dinner with both Jason's sisters and her brother. At least Damien would be there to provide some emotional protection from those two harpies. She shouldn't think so poorly of Jason's sisters and she knew that she should come correct or she was afraid she might accidentally hurt them.
The table began to shake underneath them as Cady coughed until her eyes watered.
"Sorry," she said, as if this were the most normal thing in the world. "Went down the wrong way."
The table immediately stopped moving as she reached for a glass of water and began to drink it at rapid speeds to make that tickle in her throat go away. She hadn't been expecting Jason to read her mind. Maybe he had developed powers in rehab. She had heard of stranger things.
She gave him a wry smile. He was used to this from her, or at least he should be. Cady lived most of her life in denial and now that she had acknowledged her power, she couldn't turn her back on it. But she wasn't sure she needed to overload Jason with information when he was on the mend. Or was he? Was he cured and he didn't even know it? Damien's suggestion of parading liquor around in front of Jason and wait for a reaction didn't seem like the worst idea anymore.
"Are you cured?" she blurted out, rather than another question or comment about his job. "Because my father promised he would cure you."
