Ed was not a fan of magic. The witches that had kidnapped him had been his first real experience with it and it hadn't given him a positive view of it and everything they had done since then had only affirmed his belief that magic was the worst. It was unpredictable and too many people that were awful had access to it. Tonight being a prime example of that.
He glanced over to the door Kira pointed at and his grip tightened on the torch. "Ready to face it?" He still had no idea what they were up against but Edward wasn't going to turn tail and run. It wasn't his style and even if it was, he had the sinking feeling that the basement of the church wouldn't hold it for long, whatever it was.
He noticed the sudden orange glow of Kira's eyes but he mostly ignored it, now wasn't the time to ask about that. Instead, he braced himself before he reached for the knob. He locked eyes with Kira and when he got a nod from her he turned the knob and opened the door. He was about ready for anything to jump out at them but they were greeted by more darkness and silence. It was rather anticlimactic if he was being honest.
"Not what I expected," Ed muttered under his breath. He ran a gloved hand through his hair in confusion and frustration. He knew he wasn't crazy and Kira had felt what he had so it definitely wasn't just him. Maybe it was another hallucination like last month? He was going to say as much when a loud cracking sound broke the silence. It sounded like the stone of the floor was breaking apart but before either of them moved in to get a better look, the floor in the middle of the room exploded open and the sudden pressure threw Kira and Edward back just as a bright green light flooded the basement.
