Who: Everyone
Where: The Arena again
When: STOP. ZOMBIE TIME (part two, earthtime edition)
What:

[The battle continues, friend against friend, lover against lover and team against team. Staring down at it all, the King's face seems unusually haggard, hairline fractures forming every time another bracer shatters for those who watch closely.

It's every now and then, with no regular pattern or strength, you hear something rumble, followed by the ground under your feet shuddering.

But this really isn't the time to worry about that, is it? You hear a snap of fingers, and those who have been blessed by the King feel the quiet thrum of power, electricity at their fingertips.]

I think we've had enough games don't you? Ophiuchus, subdue the remainder.

You know, I feel like I should make a chess-related pun here...or would that be in poor taste?

*regardless, blue light bleeds from the air around him, rising up into the translucent forms of nightmare creatures, fangs bared and dripping.*

How quaint.

[An entire troop of bishops forms themselves nearby. They move in fluid motion together as they raise their hands, globes of lightning sparking into life at their fingertips and arcing out at those creatures—and a few arcs passing over them, streaking towards Jace himself]

There's something to be said for the classics.

*the creatures dissolve instantly when the lightning globes strike them -- but the globes aimed at Jace himself flare blue and seem to dissolve into wisps of light. then an identical pair of globes flick into existence above his hand, hurling themselves straight at a pair of bishops.*

[The bishops burst, sand spilling to the ground where it immediately begins to pile upon itself again, reforming.

The remaining bishops launch a second attack, this time every one of them focusing their attack on Jace]

*this time he can't seem to dispel all those attacks, and every one of them hits home. when the brilliant flare of light clears, there's no sign of him but a blackened crater.

....until aetheric lighting begins to flicker and arc among the largest group of chess pieces, pale blue, dancing through the air without regard for physical obstacles. it doesn't strike at the constructs' physical forms, but at the power animating them, attempting to scatter and dissolve it.*

[The power wavers briefly, but King's gaze turns to the group full of fury and indignation and it solidifies itself again.]

That was a foolish move.

[The constructs begin to turn, looking for a common source to the foreign lightning]

*the voice is from everywhere and nowhere, though if one were particularly gifted in the senses, one could possibly localize it down to a general area, not all that far away*

Was it? I wonder.

*though that hypothetical observer should work fast, because that aetheric lightning is rapidly transforming into water, then to ice.*

[Well, King is a god. And, it is his Sight that the constructs are relying on.

The chess pieces surge forward as one, knights with lances lower, pawns and rooks with their swords and pole arms even as ice touches them, beginning to slow and halt some of their numbers. The bishops are the only ones who do not move, but surely that was expected. Instead they raise their hands, forming one great orb of lightning above the lot of them and sending it arcing forwards towards that space]

*one advantage Jace still retains is mobility, and even as the chess pieces charge his position, he's already moving, the vague locus of his attention moving up and away from the ground-based constructs. He does nothing to stop the lightning blast, and he's still close enough for tendrils of it to lash out at him as it detonates, briefly illuminating a blue-limned globe of defensive power...

...and then a second lightning blast, identical to the first save for a faint tinge of blue, materializes and arcs back along the path of the first. It's not aimed at the assembled constructs, but at the throne itself*

[Jace's attack crashes uselessly into an invisible barrier surrounding the throne.

This time, it's King himself that lashes out with an attack. Lightning from the hand of his statue itself arcs out towards Jace's location before he finds himself distracted with another matter.]
