Yeah. He leaves presents for kids every year.

[pauses for a moment before starting to talk again]

My parents died when me and Akane were kids, so I had to fill in the role for her, you know? Well, Christmas sucks without presents. So every year, I'd have her write a letter to Santa Claus and send it to some place in Europe that doesn't exist. And once the letter bounced back, I went with some money I've saved up over the year to buy what she wanted.

[there's some more silence, and he looks away]

Akane's dead. She was killed nine years ago.

No, I still failed.

I told you she'd write letters to Santa Claus. Well, that last year... she didn't write a list of presents. She wrote something else.

"I don't want any presents this year. Instead, I want you to make my wish come true. My wish is that we'll be happy like this for a really, really long time."

I couldn't make her wish come true. Even if I save her now, it won't change anything. I still failed.

Talk about a shitty Santa.
