For the observant he's wearing the old uniform, and through the dirt and whatnot it's not hard to tell he's wearing Pavo's color. And then there's the hair - dirty, but still very big.

To eyes that have not known light for months, the remaining puddles cast more than enough light to illuminate the cavern. It could be familiar . . . it should be familiar, but the massive pillar that once stood in its centre has been shattered, and thick cracks stretch over the floor and up the walls.

At the far side, where once was a stone wall is now broken open, trailing spikes of rock looking like nothing more than the teeth of a giant maw. The darkness within is impenetrable, and the hunger, even from where Kenshin lies, is palatable.]

[Easier said than done. The floor of the tunnels slope up and down, some smooth enough to slip on, others peppered with sharp stones, stalagmites, and unexpected drops. Stone underfoot, stone all around . . . and in the dark, every so often, it seems to shift around him, a breath of movement, the sudden sense of a stalactite, close, where there had been only open air before.

And the tunnels go on. And on. And on.]

[Forward and forward and left and right, up and down and it's so hard to tell if he's going the right way, or going in circles . . . the pain of his empty stomach mingles with the pain of his swelling feet, the dust under them drying his mouth, his breath cracking his lips.

Dark. Dark and stone and dark, and just when it seems he is walking in circles again, just when he could almost be sure that rise in the ground, that one sharp crack, that echo (loud, always too loud) sounded like one before . . . there's a change in the air.

Not warmer. Not cool.

Humid.]

[It rises up his legs as he continues down the tunnel. Up to his knees, and higher, up his thighs . . . he's having to wade now, and in the growing light he can see the water, see the shape of the tunnel, see the cavern opening up ahead of him—

See the cavern, as he stands at its edge.

A lake stretches out before him. There's the faint roar of a waterfall at one far side, though it's not a long drop at all. Scattered bioluminescent plants still cling to ledges and cliffs, lighting the whole area in dim, ghostly hues . . . the tunnel under his feet is slick with the remains of their rotted, flooded brethren.

The beebat colony stretching across the ceiling is barren and deserted, and here and there, odd things float on the water's surface . . . pieces of firewood, something that could be a bit of string.]
