Ah! Thank you. This will be a tolerably good first step.

...How long have you been awake?

Perhaps... [thinking] Long enough to observe my own room -- that is, the room I woke up in -- and to determine that no one else currently occupies the others.

[nods] In that case you must have a lot of questions you'd like answered. Is there anything you'd like to know about first?

I was promised an adventure. Since I perceive it is not to be found here, can you direct me elsewhere?

There is no immediate adventure here or nearby. If that is what you seek, you'll have to wait.

I mislike that. So what is there to do, other than wait for adventure? I do not pretend to have come here to wait.

Though, in truth, I do not remember why I came here at all.

You are in a place called Sabra la Tau, which is ruled by powerful beings called Judges. They bring people here in order to play their games. We, the players, agree to give up our memories and to play the Judges' games in order to receive a single wish from the Judges once we 'win'. Games occur every few days, and we play as pairs of allied teams. Between games, teams work together to survive.

Sabra La Tau. Judges. Games. No memories. Wishes. Teams.

Corvus and Lynx are these teams of which you speak?

[nods] Your team is Corvus, as indicated by the color and cut of your uniform. My team is Lynx. As Selendis as mentioned, Corvus and Lynx are a pair of partner-teams. We live, work, and play games together.

That's right. The bedroom you woke up in is your own, but the rooms down here are used by everyone.

And where and when are these games played?

The games are played in the Arena. The games happen every few days but with no set schedule or theme, and each Judge has a tendency towards different types of games of varying danger levels. When a game is about to begin, you will hear, or feel, a call--it will guide you and everyone who hears it to the Arena. Not everyone hears every call, though why that is so is unclear.

In that case, would you like to know more about the Judges? There's quite a bit of ground to cover, but I can start with the topics of most interest to you first.

Well, I would like to learn more of these games. So, yes, tell me of the Judges.

The Judges have a wide variety of natures and, as I said, they run a wide variety of games. Some of the Judges are more dangerous than others and, accordingly, their games are more dangerous as well--potentially resulting in serious injury or even death. However, the Judges who run such games are capable of resurrecting the dead and healing the injured.

The Judge presiding over a game may be identified by the statue present in the Arena when the call goes out, and the team journals contain lists describing each Judge's statue. Each Judge is also ranked according to how dangerous they are. Flowers, Game Master, Haunted, Mirror, Storyteller, Surgeon, Horn, Queen and Lover are the most dangerous and run the most dangerous games. Gambler, Persona, and Clockmaker are also dangerous, but less so than the first group.

Ah, you speak of danger. That sounds more interesting than waiting, though I perceive that such danger occurs on the Judges' schedule and not ours.

[nods] Outside of games, we hunt, fish, gather, and garden in order to obtain enough food to feed ourselves. It's not without danger, as there are dangerous beasts to be found the further you go from the dorms. Also, recently an angry Judge has also sent beasts to attack the dorms, though I believe the first wave is gone.

How disappointing. If I had known there would be dangerous beasts outside our dorm, well, I would not have slept so late.

Luckily there weren't any around when I returned at the dorm, and I hope what we've seen of them so far is the last we'll see.

[sighs, and hopes this doesn't backfire horribly one day.]

If you're so eager to fight, then one of us can start teaching you how to use a knife. Hunting and fishing can be taught over the next few days.
