Who: Hydracula
Where: On top of SKULL MOUNTAIN
When: Day 241, afternoon to evening
What: so about that undead judge-controlled zombie raptor and its friends

[Those out and about in the early afternoon may have seen the combined members of Hydra and Vulpecula (minus a few) coming home from the east, looking dusty, occasionally bloody, and more than a little haggard.

A few hours later, wounds are cleaned up, the unconscious have been put to bed, and the occasional figure in green or orange can be seen on the hat's rim. One, in fact, has been there almost consistently, sitting on the beams of the pulley and looking east.]

Almost certainly, yes.

There are at least fish to be caught nearby, and watch can be kept from the cliffs.

I hate fish but there's really no helping it....

There are crustaceans as well. And the small river lizards.

I like those better.

But a matter of taste isn't really important in this.

Lucky is as capable of catching one as the other. Or she was, previous to this change. Crustaceans may prove significantly easier now.

From what was said, Beat's goal seems to be that of equality. Unfortunately, even from what little I know, our units have much to account for in that regard.

It's not like we're unfair! Those things are just as capable of killing us as we are them! We're just BETTER.

Agreed. Nor is there anything new to the animosity between our species.

[Goes a bit more quiet, looking out into the cave.]

Smoke wore a coat of raptor hide. It belonged to the same beast that took her eye.

So long as they are not possessed, your ability should be enough to hide you, if there is ever need. In a situation like today's, you could also attempt to place an empty box in their path. It may do little more than serve as a brief obstacle, but in such situations even a few seconds can be precious.

[Shakes his head.]

I may be. There is no proof until you test such ideas out yourself—being successful in theory does not automatically translate to success in practice.

It can be broken but I was really expecting it to be a physical force--which it CAN stand up against. That was the Judge's power that busted it.

Which tells us that we truly were facing the judge incarnate, rather than simply an animated servant. Other evidence pointed that way, but to use such powers from within a closed space confirms it.

Running was truly our only choice.

...if a Judge wants to kill us isn't that hard to escape?

It should be impossible.

King's rules are structured so that the majority of blood spilled takes place during the games, in the arena. Outside the games, we are forbidden from taking each other's lives. It may be possible that the judges are bound by similar strictures, and that using the raptors as he did was Beast's attempt at working within a loophole.

Could we appeal to your patron then? Maybe not for Vulpecula, but at least for Hydra.

I can inform her of what has transpired, if she does not know already. But a solution that would place your unit in danger is not a solution.

We're already in danger. It would just be taking Hydra out the danger group too.

Precisely.

[Shifts his weight, leaning back just enough that he needs to support himself with one hand on the beam behind Arson, his arm almost but not quite circling Arson's back.]

[Lets the pretence drop, leaning back just enough to let Arson be aware of it.]

At least, even among all the difficulties we faced, there were some benefits as well. It would seem that Boomer's transformations can be directly linked to his emotions—that information may one day prove valuable.
