I have a few theories, so you can laugh at me multiple times if you wish.

One being, maybe, well, you have to be "whole" or in balance with your other, er, old self. I don't recall seeing her mark anything when she was around.

Another is possibly related to your past--you say you're sure you don't have one, but if there's so much you don't remember already, who's to say you don't remember that as well, symbol or not. Maybe it's all psychological.

Finally, perhaps your name is something he wanted you to earn. Maybe whenever you accomplished whatever it is you think he wanted you to do, it would come to you.
