Living conditions, rules, partnership, situation...I think that's it for basics.

Okay, good. Now onto the complicated stuff.

To start with: history, Judge list, or team list?

Let's start with team list.

Right. First thing: teams are made up of individuals. That sounds obvious, but it's important to remember; a lot of people fall into the habit of blaming teams for things their individual members do. The Judges like us divided into conflicting factions, but it's better to avoid that if we can.

Makes sense. The less enemies you have, the better.

Exactly. So: other than Ophiuchus, seven partner pairs besides us. Cepheus and Lacerta, Orion and...we're not sure yet, Hydra and Vulpecula, Pyxis and Cygnus, Delphinus and Pavo, Monoceros and Lepus, and Corvus and Lynx.

*as he names teams, their colors appear in pairs, hanging in the air*

Telepathy's not my only trick; I'm a pretty decent mage, specializing in illusion and water magic.

I can give you quick descriptions if you want; it'll give you something to go on, though you probably shouldn't rely on them completely.

General rundowns'd be nice. I'd hate to accidentally hit some sort of taboo when making first impression.

Right. In no particular order, then...Orion's paired with a new team, the same way we're paired with you. We've been friends with them for a long time, so you shouldn't have to worry about much there. I don't know anything about their partners, obviously.

Lacerta and Cepheus are just west of us, across the field. Orion used to be paired with Cepheus, and we used to be paired with Lacerta; King decided to change things up when we moved. I've got good friends on both teams; Lacerta's got a lot of healers, in case we run into something Bones or Flames can't fix, and Cepheus tends to store knowledge and has a few people who can use a forge. You'll probably be seeing a fair bit of Lacerta, since one of their members knows Doumeki.

Corvus and Lynx are the two newest teams other than you; they got paired together. They're pretty tightly intertwined, and they tend to be a bit paranoid about people's intentions toward them, especially in games -- a few of them got bad impressions from cynical people and it spread. Be friendly and you'll probably be fine.

Pavo and Delphinus are teams we don't tend to have a lot of contact with, but they're well-regarded. Pavo has a lot of people who can make things, particularly Feathers, but most of them have a few skills. Their dorm is shaped like a giant gear, so that tells you something. Fair warning: opinion on Delphinus is pretty strongly split about Canis in general, but they probably won't hold it against you.

Pyxis and Cygnus, we also don't have a lot of contact with, but what we have has generally been positive. Pyxis tends to have a lot of fighters, but they're pretty good natured and they're honorable; Cygnus is calmer. They're one of the closer partner pairs.

Lepus and Monoceros...kind of complicated. They both have sort of a complex about nobody liking them, so Lepus in particular has a tendency to want to strike first, particularly in dangerous games but occasionally out of them. The worst offenders in that regard have gotten their wishes and moved on, but some of the culture lingers. Monoceros is a lot calmer, but some of them don't tend to trust anyone's good intentions. Avoid triggering that and you'll probably be okay.

Vulpecula and Hydra are both very close and very insular, and they take things very personally. When games get dangerous, so do they. That said, I'm probably not the person you want to talk to for an opinion about them; I came by the suggestion I gave you earlier through experience.

Any questions?

So of those, if I'm in a really bad situation I want to be looking out for Corvus and Lynx - because if they're paranoid they're more likely to strike out first in anticipation of a strike they're imagining - Lepus and Monoceros, but mostly Lepus - for the same reason - and Vulpecula and Hydra. But in general interaction everyone is more or less fine?

That sounds about right. Corvus and Lynx less than the other two, in my opinion; several of them are level-headed enough to restrain the ones that are paranoid, but you can never tell who will and won't show up to games. But I'll also say that things can change, especially as the makeup of teams changes. Lepus wasn't always paranoid and prone to lash out, for example; when I woke up they were pretty friendly.

[info]blue_mind_group

Exactly. I come back to that a lot, but it's one of the big causes of strife I see -- people thinking teams are monolithic blocks.

I guess it makes sense in a way to assume that if you seriously attack one, you might as well be messing with the whole team ... and then just kind of taking that attitude a bit further, I guess? 'If one of them dislikes me they all do' or 'I dislike that guy, and by extension his team' are both pretty reachable extremes from this kind of a setup.

That's exactly how it happens. And honestly, the first assumption is usually accurate, but since sometimes we don't have a choice in the games...it's important not to leap to the others.

What's next, the Judges?

Right.

There are...twenty-seven that we know about and that have run games: King, Queen, Messenger, Angel, Waterbearer, Veiled, Dude, Foreman, Beauty, Clockmaker, Game Master, Horn, Huntress, Lover, Librarian, Mirror, Storyteller, Shadow, Persona, Kid, Soldier, Twins, Huntress, Graces, Persona, Haunted, and Flowers. Generally, the names give you hints about their nature: Haunted likes scaring things, Clockmaker deals with time, Veiled is mysterious, and so forth. Not always, though; the best example of that is Flowers, who's insane and dangerous.

The ones you want to watch out for are Game Master, Flowers, Huntress, Persona, Haunted, Horn and Lover when combined, Mirror and occasionally Storyteller. That doesn't mean the others are always safe, but they're much more likely to be.

Hmm. Out of those there are a few that aren't self-explanatory... King, Queen- they're the bosses, right? What do they do- Angel, Dude, Game Master, Horn, Kid, Graces are the other ones that are a little confusing.

King and Queen rule, that's right. King doesn't run a lot of games; they're usually harmless, but embarrassing or annoying in some way, and he likes to mislead people about the criteria for winning. Queen...it would probably clear things up to know that she used to be called Decadence. She likes attractive men, crossdressing, cute girls, and for some reason vampires that sparkle. She can be dangerous but isn't always.

Angel is best thought of as a little girl with godlike power; she's a bit insane, but not intentionally harmful. Her games tend to involve mazes, and usually playacting or putting on performances.

Dude...I don't honestly understand his title, but he's associated with fire and runs laid-back, relaxing games. Improvised singing, building rafts, bowling, that kind of thing. Most people enjoy them.

Game Master is a bastard. He's only run one game and I hope he never runs another one; it was one of the worst we've ever had. That was what broke Lepus.

Horn manifests as a horned rabbit; it's easily distracted, fond of gossip and rumor, and likes negative reactions. Its games tend to be full of attempts to sow discord, so watch out for that; it doesn't have any problem with lying through its teeth, or taking things out of context so that they're interpreted badly.

Kid manifests as a goat with a young boy's personality. It tends to run children's games or puzzles, sometimes with unpleasant effects attached. It's only run two so far, though.

Graces we haven't seen in a while, and I think they've only run one -- a kissing game. Think of them like gossipy teenage girls.
