You could use some clean cloth.

A more difficult endeavour, given the heat of the water and permeability of the cloth.

[Takes a spoon instead, and places a pair of their simple mugs on the counter beside the pot.]

As for Watanuki, perhaps it would be best to speak with him later, as well.

. . . Next job we get, we'll ask for something better.

Do you want to come with us when we go by there?

[Pours the tea carefully, the back of the spoon directing a thin clear stream into each of the cups.]

As odd as such travel may seem, I would not mind.

What kind of job?

[huh :|a watching that idly, half expecting it to start spilling]

It depends. River gave us one to play a prank once, and the last one we got was to ride the death bird.

If you pardon me saying so, that seems rather much for a tea strainer.

[It's certainly not fast, but discomfort with the floor aside, his hands are sure.]

It is. The death bird one got us a lot of really useful stuff. Guillotine got his own weapon back for it.

I would prefer that no life-endangering activities were undertaken for this. I will find something else to make do.

[Sets the pot down, and hands one of the mugs to Scowl.]

When it's cool enough, drink this. Until then, the aroma alone will be soothing.

Don't worry, we won't do anything that stupid just for something to strain with.

[takes the mug and breathes in the steam]

The fact that you refer to it as such leaves me some measure of hope.

[Picks up the second mug himself. Something in the aroma is reminiscent of green and living things, soothing if slightly strange.]

You shouldn't worry. We don't like being laid up like that.

Hey, what'd you put in this?

Scarlet mira, bramblefoot, dusk's ease, sweetpoint and while I was surprised to see it, a few petals of sunflower.

Sunflower? There must've been some growing under a torch . . .

. . . Can I ask what you thought about everything we just saw? Not just the First Game.

Memories of the game are vague at best. I do not think I was truly there, much as what impressions reached me would indicate I was yet in some way present. There were no others around me. Caught between memory and form, there was only darkness.

. . . of the rest, I am still unsure. Regardless of whether or not I was the one acting within them, those memories are yet my own. And in them, in retrospect . . . I wonder, now, if a great wrong was done against that which we most wished to protect.

Even when I left the swamp, there was little left to save. Deep sinkholes had already become little more than dried mud.

I felt the death of the swamp, shortly before my own. When even the first of the library's floors had been taken by the sun.

The books were here. And the Maiden's presence. All that could have been preserved was.

His life was not something that could be so saved.

Nor did he. Neither did Fang or Spar, to the extent that they tried to begin the marsh anew underground.
