Storyteller could only chuckle at the edit. After all, she narrated pointless actions all the time too!

She glanced over at the angry looking boy, noting that his glare was indeed more hilarious than frightful. Arching her back, she sprang to his shoulders. "How right you are!" she giggled, hooking on with her tail.

~Rainbow~ lifted his hand towards the angry Delphinus girl in what he hoped was a placating gesture. Not that those ever worked with angry people.

Then he turned back to the Hydra... and Scowl's glare.

"Right! The Game!" he exclaimed, getting back on the subject. "A number of magical creatures participated, among them an hydra, such as yourself, and a rather grumpy dolphin." He paused, considering the next part, the continued. "In the game, both the dolphin and the hydra, played the part of antagonists. The one in charge of it, knowing perhaps that the players wouldn't willingly play that part, made it so they had to. However the hunter, another player meant to be an antagonist, managed somehow to avoid their part." ~Rainbow~ paused again, this time wondering if he was telling the story right. He didn't want to bore his audience, after all.

The tip of Storyteller's tail tapped at the chin of her second head, with a bemused look plastered on all three. She was hardly bored.

"It's an interesting tale so far," she chimed after ~Rainbow's~ pause. "Though somewhat familiar. Are you sure you aren't missing a character?"

"Am I?" ~Rainbow~ asked thoughtfully. He kept narrating, trying to remember the forgotten character, it was difficult to remember everything when he hadn't been there.

"Ah," he said after a minute. "The king." he paused again, more for dramatic pacing than anything else.

"The hunter didn't play at all, the king tried not to play, the dolphin and the hydra had no choice." He studied the cardboard hydra again. It was a pretty cool hydra, after all. "Is that better?" he asked, his tone a bit more serious than before.

This is so stupid . . .

Wanting to clarify, Scowl added on to Rain's story. "The king nearly gave in at the beginning, but the hydra convinced him to team up and use the rest of the antagonists to end the game quickly. In the end he was slain by one of the protagonists, but how and by which one is shrouded in mystery."

Storyteller hummed. "Mm, a familiar story indeed, the King was one of my favorites!" She nodded to herself, detaching herself from Scowl and relocating to the ground.

"It's quite a good story, but tell me! You seem quite troubled by the hydra and the dolphin. Were their roles not interesting enough?"

"Their roles were interesting," Rain said. "They were the most interesting characters in the story," he added, and it was true. A story without conflict was never truly a story. "But it was also the most difficult one. After the game, both the dolphin and the hydra wondered, 'why could they stop themselves and we couldn't? Are we weaker? Are we evil?'"

~Rainbow~ considered briefly adding a dog with a superiority complex to the story, but shrugged it off deciding that adding such a dislikable character so late, would just bring the quality down.

"And so, the hydra tired of wondering, invited the dolphin to simply go ask. After all, the obvious solution is often the best one."

"Hm. . ." Storyteller mused to herself. The hydra began to twist and contort its paper form, becoming a docile looking sheep.

"Most endings are best left up to interpretation, I would think." She nodded and began to trot daintily around the group.

"But a good story does often have closure. Now, I must say! If the three pigs had all built their houses out of sturdy brick, what a short story that would be. Likewise, if every antagonist were the same, how boring would that have been. All attempting to wait out their roles. . .no climax at all! The same for the opposite end. There isn't any diversity in having a single minded killer pack. . ."

Storyteller trailed off, amazed at the blanks' abilities to make the same face at the exact same time. . .

The sheep twisted and folded again, this time into a happy smiling wolf.

"As for the simple question of why. . .well! The Storyteller had to choose someone. Why not the Hydra she was partial to, and the fish out of water? Had they not been an option, another pair would have shared the same fate."

The wolf let out a hearty laugh and folded itself back into her preferred Hydra guise.

"Of course--! I'm only called the Storyteller and not the Writer. Perhaps it's better for me not to dabble in original tales, but it's quite fun!"

Shigure-- because he was Shigure when he was feeling respectful-- bowed slightly.

"Thank you." he said before turning to the rest of the group, then added cheerfully. "And the dog thing was a jab at Canis, in case you were wondering."
