Who: Anyone
Where: Outside of the angerdome
When: Day 148, noon
What:

[Scattered around the roof of Hydra are several crude tools made of bone, leather and stone and a few papers with rather technical designs on it. Claude's handiwork, for any staring at them, might be recognizable and lays largely untouched, however, in the margins, on the back, on several adjoining sheets are designs on implementing THOSE plans. Equations, materials, notes on experiments and results... all scattered throughout the pages in several handwritings and more than one language.

This obviously hasn't been an overnight project, nor anywhere near completed either...

However, what may have grabbed your attention is the groan of wood as they crank back the catapult for another test.]

... That might be the limit.. adjust the tension or just wait until we can really mess with the angle?

Come on up, there's three more pages.

But . . .

[Looks right at Scowl, urge to flee warring with a nearly overwhelming urge to stay.]

Is it really okay?

I just said to stop hiding, didn't I?

[Nods.]

I stopped.

It wasn't something Scowl wanted me to work on, before.

I thought you didn't want to work on it. It's a weapon.

It's a catapult.

And . . . it's something to defend your home, isn't it? If they didn't want to be near it . . . people could always go around.

And it would be really hard, to bring something like this to games.

. . . Tch. Knives are things to defend our home and family too. You can't pick and choose like that.

. . . mm. Probably . . . I lost that right a long time ago.

[Bows a little.]

I'm sorry for troubling you.

It's not trouble. You did this, right? [gestures to the paper she made additional notes on]

Mmm, this really would be easier if we could get alloys or even a reliable supply of wood.

[info]roadtothesky

It really would. Wood more than anything . . . for things like this, you could re-cast the fittings if they warped, but as soon as the strain on the beams is too much . . . that's really it.

Not even the arena buildings used wood. It's all stone.
