Who: The newest Pavonians and whoever else
Where: Down by the lake
When: Day 110, morning
What: Wholesale plant slaughter, oh the humanity

[This morning every bowl and cup in Pavo are down by the lake, along with half a dozen smooth stones, a corner of bed sheet with holes poked in it, and various plantlife in differing stages of chopped, torn, pulverized and semi-paste.]

Good gracious, this one is foul.

This one?

[Scoops some up on his fingers, smells it, and makes a face.]

Nothing, I'm afraid. This one, my friend, is a spectacular waste of time.

Then why did you do it?

In the hopes that the time would no be wasted, of course.

I've had much better luck with some.

Oh that's good.

What counts as better luck?

Something that smells not quite so deadly.

For the sake of something that smells pleasant, of course.

Ehhh, I don't really get it. . .

Surely given the choice between, say- this one- [He offers the failure experiment for smelling.] -and this one- [~mint~] -one has a natural inclination.

Ah. . . but what would you use it for. . .

For myself, of course.

Or the dorm, if it comes to that.

You must not like how it smells.

Well, there was that lingering smell from the long game, but that's mostly gone by now.

For the most part, it's horribly bland.

It is a little bland, I guess.

More's the pity, my friend. More's the pity. Wait here a moment, will you?

[Standing to go and wash his hands in the lake- and when he comes back, he picks up the mint again.]

Have you anything to hold things in?

Then I shall have to restrain myself from pulping it for you.

[Handing over a a few little mint branches with about a dozen leaves each.]

Smash them up in your dorm, or set them to burn in the stove, or heat them in boiling water and they make a most marvelous smell.
