This world isn't quite like ours. Not quite. In the wake of the rennisance, which occurred in the mid-thirteenth century, society changed. Gender became less important and chosen roles were taken more into account. Technology continued at a slightly increased rate but with a great deal of aestheticism taken into account: Computers exist now, in the nineteenth century, but they look like this and are powered by wind turning motors: Have fun creating a steampunk world. There are three chosen roles without the universe: Ascendant, Beloved, and Two Spirit.
The year is 1873. The City's name is LeChance. Located in Southern California, it sprung up almost overnight. Beautifully. The town is full of old world glory and decadence, a coastal city with paved streets, boardwalks on the coast, 100 miles from anywhere. Leroy LeChance, the developer has a city for 10,000 people without anyone to live in it. It has pharmacies and Doctor's offices. Repair shops and general stores. Dress Maker's and tailors and a dozen other things besides. He just needs people.
Land's free, buildings just need to be claimed. All anyone's got to do it bring the willingness to work to build the community. Ascendant, Beloved, and Two Spirit are all welcome. Leroy a two spirit, runs a salon- a salon, not a saloon. It's fancy, dandified, but all are welcome, provided they mind their manners.
Invitations were sent all over the world, inviting people for a new start. Specific people. Trains arrive daily (it's too far for Balloon travel), none from the same origin. Everyone was unmarried. Everyone was a stranger; almost calculatedly so. The yenta, the judge, the mayor in towns all over advised anyone who asked their advice to go. It was an opportunity not to be missed.
The twist to this game is that it's played anonymously: you pick your character without ever giving your name. You make your character without telling anyone who it is. All communication is done via IJ pms.
