Lord Voldemort never discovered their location and feigned his retreat. Harry grew up in a loving home. Neville was not coddled but loved. Upon entering Hogwarts, Harry learned the world was not exactly as his parents and uncles had made it out to be. Neville was pleased that everything was what he had hoped for. In 1995 the world is changing. It has become a place of tension and strife. When Bartemius Crouch Senior came into office he led the largest dark wizard hunt of the century. His nets caught the blundering and the stupid but allowed the slipperiest of the Dark Lord’s followers through, including his own son. Barty Crouch Junior, under the direction of his Lord, went on to work for his father at the Ministry. At the beginning of the present school year he was inducted as the current Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. The Ministry is rife with corruption. Death Eaters lie in wait for their Lord’s return. Their day is here and now. If the Order cannot handle it, if the Ministry is too subverted to control it, then what are the Prophesied Children to do? In the year 2008, a virus swept North America. Ever vigilant for a pandemic, citizens boarded up their windows, stockpiled their canned goods, and turned their neighbors in to the CDC. Short wave radios fell off the shelves, evacuation routes were prepared. Gas masks and specialty filtration systems were distributed. Pills were available for those showing early symptoms. Pills that did not work. That were later replaced with cyanide as their active ingredient. For those who were brave enough to put their fingers near a loved one's mouth. The United States, Canada, Mexico, the virus swept down into South America and festered in the heat of the jungle. In some places it burned out. Superstition ruled and saved lives. But nothing stopped the virus. You wake up to the crackle of dead airwaves. Three months after the first diagnosed case of Currere Excessum was recorded, NATO approved Great Britain's use of nuclear force against the United States. It was assumed that all organic material would be reduced to ash under the impact. It was assumed that the Quarantine of the Americas would be temporary, at best. Any who survived the blast would be given the highest in humanitarian attention and medical care. The only American emissaries who knew of the plan lay incinerated in Washington. They were hailed as a breakthrough in artificial intelligence and the next generation in computer technology, NeohumansTM became available to anyone who could afford them at the time. Unknown to the public, around the same time that NeohumansTM were being developed, Valley Dynamics was also working on a more subtle version of bio-mechanical androids called Facsimiles that can blend seamlessly into the general population. Now in 2020, whether it be from outside influence or internal, NeohumansTM and Facsimiles alike are experiencing glitches in their programming. Only a small number of cases have occurred so far, just small things that Valley Dynamics have managed to take care of one way or another. But something bigger is coming and no one, not even those at Valley Dynamics, knows what it is, when it will happen, and least of all why.
