Is there any other free photoshop-like programs out there that I could use to have a character write a faux handwritten letter with?

edit: something like this but with a way to copy & paste the end result. http://www.writing-fonts.com/create-handwritten-letters-online-using-your-own-hand-writing-fonts

Gimp is free and quite like Photoshop from what I've heard?

I don't know if you're looking for a download or not, but Pixlr is convenient because it's online. No dealing with downloads, free or not. I use it for just about everything. I can see no reason why you couldn't have a faux handwritten letter.
