It does work if you type in email+journal@gmail.com, just to be clear. That obviously doesn't help if you have a separate "address" for every journal, but if you have it by game, it could still be helpful. For example, I have lenabee+ouad@me.com that routes all my OUAD notifs into one folder.
And, of course, all my really old journals aren't using that type of email address, so that's not a big deal, really.
