Okay, mods, what resources do you use to rally the troops? I've been in a few games where the mods do an amazing job at keeping people active with all sorts of OOC and IC activities, but sadly can't remember which communities I was in or what the hell the activities were. Are there any suggestions out there? A resource for RP team building activities? Are there any tips and tricks you use to keep your game active without major group IC plots?

Something we do at the game I mod is a weekly memorable quotes post. We post a thread in the OOC every Sunday, and then players can go back and post quotes from threads/journal entries that made some kind of impression on them (made them laugh, could relate to, etc etc). The only rule is that you can't quote yourself. It helps build a sense of community and also lets players feel praised and good about what they write. Plus, it encourages the reading of threads that you might not be involved in.

Another thing we do, (and lately, it's been a bit more sporadic) is a weekly character building exercise. Very similar to the above posts, where we ask a few questions in the OOC and the players respond as their characters.

I would also suggest superlative awards (best thread, most developed character, etc...including fun ones that pertain specifically to your game) after a certain amount of time (6 months, is when we did ours).

We've also done something called a Love Meme (and it's been in a few games that I've been in actually) where you post one thread in the OOC and everyone comments with their journals in a single post, and everyone else responds to that person's comment with love. The catch is that it's done anonymously so you don't know who's commenting. It's fun. The only thing you'd have to do is make sure, as a mod, that everyone has about the same amount of comments, or people might feel left out.

Hope that helps!

I really, really love that memorable quotes idea. I remember being in a game a looong time ago (perhaps on GJ?) that did something similar to that and I remember loving the praise I got and how it seemed to really bond the whole group together. I think I'll have to give that one a try! Along with the character building exercises. I had thought about that one but the game got really slow and I wasn't sure if I should even bother, but now that things are picking up it sounds like a good idea.

I've done superlative awards before and the last time I did them they... didn't really pan out all that well, ahah. Maybe it's worth another shot! I'll think about it, definitely.

I miss love memes! I remember there was a whole IJ-RPer wide one a while ago and I loved getting positive feedback as well as dishing out the love to my fellow players. I can't believe I overlooked doing something like that.

Thank you for all your suggestions! They really did help! :3
