To OOC, or not to OOC. Do you regularly talk OOC with and get to know your fellow RPers? Why or why not? Discuss.

I like talking to people, so maybe that's why I talk a lot OOC.
Also, I like going over the line to make sure we both know what's going on, and by doing that you can tell if you and the other player have chemistry. If there's no chemistry, how can a line even go down? Both players will be bored and then no one's happy.
I also like talking to the players because I know that, deep down, everyone I play against is a human and not a roleplaying machine. I don't get the anti-OOC thing that's become popular. Screw that.

I dunno about "regularly," but I try to. It seems to be hard to plot without OOC chatting and I do like getting to know my fellow players! I just don't like AIM that much, so I don't go on very often. I do miss the days when I used to just play and let storylines develop naturally, but I might be romanticizing that...

I have mixed feelings about this topic. I don't mind OOC chat/talk at all. However, I have discovered that those I chat to less OOC, I have an easier time discussing the more difficult issues that come up in a storyline and I have an easier time letting them know if a line isn't working out. I guess because there's not as much of an emotional attachment there, so to speak.
On the other hand, I can't stand those who don't want to talk OOC at all. It kinda drives me crazy. I'm not saying I want to be best buds with all my rp partners, but some OOC chat is necessary. Plus, you never know when you might make a good friend.

my small group i've been rp-ing with for about 3 years are some of my best friends. 3 of us actually met a couple years ago - and we don't live close by. it involved buying VERY expensive plane tickets... but so worth it!
i don't get this anti-ooc thing either. how are you supposed to plot and come up with epic storylines if you don't talk? and plotting usually turns to "oh, i once knew someone who did that" type of talk.
i DO agree with what deepwithin said, about it being harder to tell close friends that you don't like the line you're in. it almost feels like you're ending something with THEM, rather than with the character.
