How about a discussion about what players see the role of mods as being.
I firmly believe that mods need to step up and make communities more interactive. Group chats are one way to do that, yet so many communities don't even do something that simple. Or a group thread if you're in a thread based community. Pose a weekly question or something to the community that gets everyone involved. I'm so sick of mods who think there only job is to do adds and removals.
You have to work to get a community involved and not let it get so cliquey. And doing a group chat once every few months or something else every couple of months isn't going to cut it. It has to be on a consistent basis. Yes, I realize mods have lives outside of rp, but when you take on the position of modding a game, I see it as part of their duty to get the community as a whole involved.
Also, mods need to keep things such as the taken and hold lists updated. Really, that's basic modding, but I see many communities that don't do it.
