log: thor and loki go for a ride
Who: Loki and Thor
What: Off to see the wizard! Loki takes Thor on a mystery journey to his Christmas present.
Where: Asgard (Marvel)
When: Today
Warnings/Rating: None.
Loki had been holding this secret close for some time, waiting, waiting.
He had a thought in his head, you see, of what his next move might be. He always had such thoughts, always planned out the next few steps. There would be no time for genial rides in the woods soon, if all went according to plan.
Perhaps today was an act of generosity, or perhaps he thought he already knew what the outcome would be. Perhaps he thought he knew better than all things, including those that he was bringing his brother to. But there would be no harm out of this journey, if Thor only stayed to the bloody path.
He waited in the woods, leaning against the trunk of a tree, blending smoothly with the green and brown and black surrounding. No ceremonial helmet, but no Midgardian clothing, either, and his brother had seen him in little else for such a long time. Here was the old armor, that scarred and pitted arc of gold on the chest plate, the cloak that clung to his heels as if weighted and so thoroughly obscured what he might be doing beneath in battle. Two horses were lashed to a nearby tree, drinking from the clear water of a quiet stream. This was beyond the city, beyond the meadows, fields, and farms outside. There was still sunlight dappling the ground through the trees, but further into the woods it grew darker, more obscure.
How had he come to be here? Not the Bifrost, of course. No, he had traveled one of his own bone-shattering highways, one of the holes between things. His feet could find the way.
The horses were a pair of spectacular creatures, one chestnut and one speckled white and brown. Thor might recognize them as property of the royal stables, and perhaps that was intended to sink under his skin, to remind him that there were very few places where Loki could not insinuate himself if he did not wish to.
But he seemed in excellent spirits when he sighted Thor. "The Thunderer approaches!" Cheerful mockery. Everything about this felt like a patch of the old days. It could almost be believed that they were taking an afternoon ride, as they once had when they were boys. "I will give you first choice on horses only if you keep your jokes to yourself."
