Mass Effect: Martha J & Jane F & Bruce B
[It was a bad few weeks, to say the least, so the chance to go to the Citadel again already took a heavy weight off his shoulders. For a short time they would be absorbed into the futuristic world full of exciting advantages and advanced species. So after giving them a head's up, Bruce packed his backpack with notebooks and a change of clothes just in case, but they weren't going to be there long. He was sporting a full beard again these days, but it was reasonably groomed. He led the other two to the door he used to know like the back of his hand, and stepped into it without any hesitation.

The Citadel had a very specific feel to it, since it was a space station and had a controlled atmosphere. They stepped out of the hotel and into the Lower Wards, in a corridor not far from Chora's Den. It wasn't the nicest part of the Citadel to start in, but it was the least likely place for strangers to get questioned. Throbbing music came out of the Den, in true nightclub fashion, and Bruce gestured for them to follow him past it.] This is the seedy part, sorry. We're going to head into the Lower Markets and make our way up. Prepare yourself because this area's busy. [He smiled at them, because no time like the present to throw themselves head first into the culture. The Lower Markets were full of busy energy and the various alien species bartering and selling their wares.]

[Martha was blissfully unawares of the issues in the other doors. Being in her own door, missing her family and watching UNIT counting down the days until Christmas, following every lead of something slightly extraterrestrial, was not the most fun she'd ever had, but it didn't touch her bad days.

Talking to Bruce and Jane, though, and visiting Jane's lab made her remember how much she missed that scientific camaraderie. It felt like ages since she had worked in a lab with Owen at Torchwood, part of a team again, and she missed that sort of work, and him, and the whole team.

But there was no time to get distracted by that, not when she was in space again. Her excitement was not exactly subtle. Her eyes were lit up.] So there's a chance for trouble? Not the worst slums I've seen, though. [New New York was a little creepy because the markets had been so empty, other than the drug dealers. And then she had been kidnapped, but. That was then. A few kidnappings didn't stop her from enjoying the sights of these markets now.] Is this...is there some version of Earth in this door, or is this somewhere else altogether? [She had the good sense to ask that question quietly.]

Probably some kind of Earth. [Jane's attention kept shifting past to all the people that were around. The aliens were, of course, a marvel to see but there were enough humans around.] Unless they've colonized other planets and are living elsewhere since they abandoned Earth after stripping it of each resources? [Hey, she's read enough fiction. It could happen.

Her pockets were filled with notepads, one each, but for now she let her feet turn her into circles as she took in the sights and sounds of Citadel.] I don't know why I'm surprised there are nightclubs in space but I am. Maybe it's the techno. I'd think we would've gone beyond it.

There's a version of Earth, yes, but I haven't really taken any trips out of the Citadel itself yet. [Bruce had considered it back when he lived there, he just never got around to it. Which was a shame, because the idea of seeing other Earths or new planets was very appealing.] I think there's people still there, they've just traveled to other worlds now. It's very Star Trek with some Star Wars thrown in there. [He could throw geek terms around with the best of them, but at least he was in good company for that.]

It's mob-ish too. The dark underbelly of the Citadel. Maybe evil has to be tied to techno somehow. [He was already more relaxed just by being there, smiling as he glanced around and nodded to some of the vendors who remembered him. Bruce kept close to the two of them, since they were still in the busy part, and gestured for them to head toward the upper markets.] It's a whole different place once you get higher on the floors.

No? You've been too busy with the mob-owned techno nightclub, haven't you? [She shot Bruce a cheeky smile. There would probably be enough to keep her busy on the Citadel for a while, too. New planets were amazing, but so were space stations. Every place was a little bit amazing.] There's no accounting for musical tastes. [She shrugged towards Jane.

[She grinned at vendors they passed, trying to get a better sense at what they actually were selling. Bruce and Jane might want to keep their eyes on her, because like all companions, she might wander off at something interesting. And there were a lot of interesting things and alien races she didn't recognize.]

[Jane’s grin was warm, wide.] Evil equals techno? Somehow I’m not surprised. [The trouble with keeping an eye out for Martha was that there wasn’t anyone keeping an eye out for Jane. New places, new people, everything was too shiny to ignore. As she walked she nearly bumped into a krogan, giving him a sheepish smile as she moved past him.]

I’m going to need a primer. Maybe a pamphlet. This is amazing Is there a visitors section? [Probably not down at the Lower Markets.] What kinds of things do people sell down here? [She had a guess but] What kind of currency are we looking at? If only I could send postcards.

Oh sure, I own one of my own seedy nightclubs, didn't I mention? We do disco instead. [In his head that was the only thing on par with techno.] You two are too young to really know the disco era. Be glad. [Bruce assumed at least, they were at least a decade or so younger than him. Most people were. He was born old, that's what he usually thought, and most days he felt like it. Right now he was feeling in his twenties again though, so there was that.]

Once we get up to the Presidium, there's a virtual intelligence unit called Avina that will give an explanation for everything. They have tours and welcoming info there too, this is a big hub for tourists. [That much was obvious considering how many people were there, between people who knew what they were looking for, and complete wide eyed tourists. They were falling into the latter category.] They sell weapons and supplies, spices, jewelry, gifts, even tropical fish. That part surprised me, but some of the other planets are full of wildlife apparently.

[He took them into the elevator to take them up to the Presidium. There was strange elevator music in the background, strangely normal all things considered.] They use credits, sometimes you can get odd jobs or run errands around here.
