Osborn log: Natasha/Bucky
[Running at the same time as this.]

[After agreeing to keep an eye on the Osborn situation, Bucky met Natasha downstairs and headed in that direction. It wasn't hard to figure out the location, plus there was the sheer size of it. Damn. He stopped at the corner with her and gave a quick look around. He'd usually do the perimeter but it might come off as suspicious, and he was positive there were cameras around the gate.]

Let's keep over here for now. I don't want to put us on their radar until we need a closer look. [They were both adept at hiding in crowds, but there wasn't one here. They could probably walk past together and act innocent about it, but that'd only be good for one shot. For now he focused on Natasha, while keeping a side eye on the house.] What the fuck was he thinking, going in there? Osborn's a psycho.

[Natasha nodded at his words and, since they appeared to be a couple on an afternoon walk, she caught his hand and tugged him over to a shady spot beneath a tree. They only wanted to rest in the shade for a bit. As she sat, her own eyes swept across the house idly as she replied to James] He doesn't know him. Neither do I. Neither do anyone from my world. He's thinking of what's best for Stacey and assumes Osborn will be reasonable enough not to risk a messy incident in his own home that may draw unwanted attention.

[It wasn't the first time he pretended to be a normal couple in public with Nat. Bucky's smile was even real when he sat down in the shade with her. It was going to start getting too warm outside of the jacket to make much sense in public, but for now his arm was carefully hidden.] I don't care if we're from different worlds, a lot of things are the exact same, and I'd put my money on him being one of them. [Bucky eyed the walls, trying to think of how quickly he could scale one.] Parker's dealt with him the most, but I know his type. Rich and arrogant. But maybe not suicidal.

[Tossing her hair out of her eyes, she settled next to some tree roots, sitting with her legs stretched out in front of her as she kept one eye on the estate and the other on James.] Rich and arrogant, Banner can handle. He'll be okay. [Really, she'd been a little surprised at the request from Tony...though it had been more of an order than a request.]

[Bucky shrugged and pulled up a little grass.] Yeah we'll see about that. Osborn's a rich bastard, but he's a scientist. Plenty of brains would love to get their hands on the Hulk. Or sell him to someone else. [The Hulk was gone when he was from, but he had files on him. The KGB and all their allies were very aware of people they had to look out for.] But I think he's not going to piss off the Avengers. He wants us to trust him, or at least not make a move against him.

If - or when - he makes a move, it won't be today. From what you've said, wanting the Avengers to trust him...he'll likely draw him in with some project. Not today, but in the near future. Reach out, lure him in scientifically...it's what I'd do, in his shoes. [Her shoulders lifted in a brief shrug and she glanced at James more directly.]

Well whatever got him in there this time, Stark said a friend, it's a weak spot. It'll work again. [Bucky shrugged back at her. His hair was getting a little long, mostly because he forgot to get it cut, it was habit.] See I'm not worried about Banner, he's a lot more dangerous than any of Osborn's toys. But Osborn making new Hulks? That's something to worry about. [In the worst possible sense.] I agree with you though. He's not going to play his hand now.

[For half a second, her fingers twitched towards him, having a sudden desire to push his hair out of his eyes. But she stopped, instead picking up a stick and absently beginning to draw in the soil, not paying attention to what she was doing.] We'll keep an eye on him after today. And he likely knows this.

I'm shocked Parker wasn't already here hovering over the house. Way I hear it, their mutual hatred runs deep. [Bucky liked Parker. He talked a lot and was annoying as hell, but so was Bucky when he first started out. The plucky sidekick to Cap's stoicism. He didn't know the kid well, and he didn't have to. He knew bad guys from good guys. He had been both sides, that made it easier.] We need to keep a close watch. That pulse? If it came from Oscorp, it's not the last we're going to hear about it.

Something happened during the fight in Manhattan, between them. [Her eyes flicker back to the house, and Natasha nodded her agreement.] Whatever it was, I don't think he intended to create several dozen new mutants.

No, because now he's got attention he doesn't want. That's not the smart play. Someone fucked up. [Bucky's sharp gaze was on the house, but he slanted a look her way. He picked up some of the grass he'd been pulling and flicked it at her.] So say the pulse happened around you. What would you want to get?

I wonder who paid for it. [The grass falls uselessly against her arm, and she glances down at it, then notices she's been tracing Cyrillic characters. After studying them briefly, she scrubs them out with her fingers and tosses the stick to one side, then looks up at James.] Nothing. [She's had enough with being toyed with.] You?

Whoever did is probably dead. Or wish they were. [If Bucky noticed the Cyrillic characters, he doesn't say anything. He smiles at her answer, sincerely, and it makes him look younger. Or the age his body thought it was, before the trauma made him live a dozen lives over.] Nothing. And I'm guessing for the same reason. [He lost his smile a moment later.] Stark wants to do an MRI on me, to figure out something with the arm.

Would Osborn go with the immediate hurt, or drawing things out? [Brushing her hand off on the cuff of her jeans, she meets his eyes, only giving a faint nod at his answer. After a moment, her brow crinkles slightly.] ...Wouldn't it short out the imaging machine?

Depends on how pissed off he was. He's bad news. Maybe not the type of bad news we're used to, but a version of it. [Bucky shrugs his good arm.] Stark can find a way around that, but I told him I wasn't sure poking around my brain is a good idea. Even if it's not intrusive. [He really hated that whole conversation, it made him anxious. Or uncertain.] But we might be trying it anyway.

I'm used to many different kinds. [She tilts her head a little, auburn curls falling over her shoulder.] If anyone can, it's probably Stark. I wouldn't trust most others to do so. [Natasha frowns a little bit.] I thought you had most of your memories. What are you looking for?

He wants to see if he can figure out how they hooked the arm up to my brain. See if I can get better use out of it. [That was Tony Stark's motivation, outside of playing with a cool new toy. Bucky's motivation was a different story.] If he gets the picture of my brain and gets some second opinions from those fancy doctors, they might be able to see where the scars are. How it was fixed. It could help you.

[Natasha frowned a little more, staring at him for a long moment, then looked away.] I don't need help. I told you, I've asked Banner to look into it.

Banner's not a neurosurgeon. He's good, but he's not an expert on brains. Stark can buy the right people, and if I have to put up with him, I might as well use his money. [Bucky looks down at the ground, since it's awkward for both of them.] It's not a big deal. He'll get a look. If there's something, good, if not, whatever. I didn't tell him that part of it.

He's the closest I've got...and I don't want Stark knowing. I don't want any of the rest knowing. [It was bad enough that she'd told Banner, but if the others were aware of that weakness...she didn't want to think about it. Worse, it seemed that everyone from Bucky's world already knew.] If that's what you want to do, fine.

I'm not going to tell them, that's your info, not mine. [Bucky didn't even tell Steve, and he told Steve everything. He knew his friend had some general idea that Bucky and Natasha were connected. The Russian spy part and their familiarity was a good indication. But he tried not to give details. He was more up front about his programming because he used it like an aggressive shield. And he was used to people knowing.] I'll let you know how it goes, once we figure out a safe way to handle it.

[For several minutes, she remained silent. Tense. She could count the number of people she trusted on one hand, and he was only barely on that hand; she still wasn't fully certain she trusted him, though she was trying. It wasn't her fault she didn't trust - it was because of what had been done to her. And she hated that. The one thing she feared most in the world was being helpless, which was why she was always so careful, so controlled...but when it mattered, she still couldn't break free.

Finally, her eyes shifted back to him, and she gave a faint nod.] Alright.

[Bucky understood. He really did. If there was one person in the world who was on the same page as Natasha Romanoff, it was Bucky Barnes. She just hadn't learned all of it yet. He would wait to earn her trust. He didn't trust nobody either, outside of Steve and Nat. People like them, they trusted rarely and selectively. It was the only way to survive.] So can I take you out to dinner again? [He smirked.]

Good. Tomorrow night? [Bucky knew a good thing when he saw it. And he was determined to win her over again, no matter what. He might've flirted more but he glanced at movement in the Osborn house. Some pissed off kid stormed out, and there was Banner, also apparently fleeing.] Huh. Well, no explosions?

So long as the world doesn't end ahead of time. [Her reply came absently as she watched the door open, and she sat up a little in case a threat was coming. At the question, one shoulder lifted slightly.] For the moment, it seems.

[Natasha took his hand and stood easily, then kept hold of it a moment longer as she studied him. A minute later, she gave a slow nod.] Seven. [After one last look at the estate, she led the way back to the sidewalk so they could start off again.
