Cerebro -> Mutants; Telepathy
[Telepathy: various Mutants in Marvel]

[Good morning, Marvel mutants (X-gene and Pulse mutants, alike)! Jean is playing with Cerebro today to find yooouuuu~ (IMPORTANT NOTE: Not all mutants show up with Cerebro due to whatever reasons. If you'd rather not be found, Jean can't find you. That simple. :D) She forgoes telepathic communication to the mutants that wouldn't handle it well, and notes to meet them in person instead. To the others, the opening statement is roughly the same for everyone:]

Don't be alarmed. My name is Jean Grey. I am acting Headmaster of the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. How are you doing today?

[Telepathy: MK Robinson]

[The voice is clear in MK's mind, purposeful. This is no idle whisper of surface thoughts. Jean is making her presence very known. The warm tendrils that webbed into her frontal lobe was less of a knock and more of someone wandering in to your house and making themselves comfortable on your couch.]

Good morning. Are you feeling better today?

[Still panic. Someone probably should have warned her about what a handful she is. It takes her a long time, but she finally gets a minuscule sense of control. Enough that her heart isn't racing so much and some of the voices bleed into the sidelines for a moment.] I fucking hate this.

[There's a different warmth from her. Pleased. Proud.] That's better. [Calm, collected. Also speaking longer to give MK something to concentrate on.] You're allowed to hate it, but it's going to be much easier on you when you're able to accept your abilities. Acceptance comes with control. Control takes a lot of practice. You have a right to be scared. A right to be angry. A right to wish everything was normal and quiet. I can't promise to fix everything, but I can promise to help you. You're in a safe place. Nothing is going to happen here.

[A little more frustrated.] Something always happens around here. [She loses control for a moment, and the thoughts of the other residents bleed through again. A frustrated scream can be heard from her room, and she buries her face in her pillow. Breathe in, and breathe out. Some more control again. Questions, they'll distract her.] Were you born with this?

[A sigh. MK wasn't wrong, but nothing was going to happen to her here. Jean would make certain of that.] Technically, yes. I was born with the X-gene. It didn't manifest itself until I was ten years old. My best friend Annie and I were playing in the yard. Our ball rolled into the road and when she went after it she was hit by a car. I tried to help her. I could hear her thoughts, her fear was my fear, her pain was my pain. I couldn't stop it. I felt her die. First physically, in my arms. Then her thoughts went silent. No more pain. No more suffering. But even then I couldn't get out of her mind. It took almost two hours after they removed her body for me to be able to let go of Annie, still trying to will her to just think something. She never did. I never heard anything out of her again. Everyone else, though? I heard everything they were thinking. I heard how Annie's parents blamed me for her death. I heard how my parents thought I was insane. I heard how sorry everyone felt for me. I was taken to therapists and neurologists, but for over a full year I was bombarded with people's thoughts whether I wanted them or not. Sometimes I'd be awake all night due to people across the globe having an argument. Then my parents found a new therapist for me. Charles Xavier. No one knew he was a mutant back then. He explained everything and worked hard to help me control the telepathy. Well, he put these mental blocks up so I couldn't use it for years until he knew I could handle it, but it was the sort of assistance I needed. To this day, I still have to actively push other people's thoughts from my mind. It does get easier. The distrust from non-telepaths never gets easy.

[She paused, more of that soft concerned warmth.] When did this start for you?

[The steady sound of Jean's voice placates MK while she's speaking, the consistency of her tone making it easier to drown out everything else around her. Her face is still in that pillow, and her fingers are still curling around her sheets, but she's listening. There are still murmurs in the background. But the voice makes it easier, and she listens to the story. Feeling little twinges of pain in her chest at the sadness. A long string of moments pass before she answers the question.] About a year and a half ago? There was this...pulse that happened in the city, right around Oscorp. Pe-- Spider-Man found me after basically blowing a hole in Central Park. [The idea of Spidey, though, is clearly something that's hurtful, and she loses control all over again. This time just a loop of blame and nonsensical gibberish. It goes on for a long, long time, a rolling panic attack that spirals until she just passes out from exhaustion. Next time, Jean, she'll try to do better.]
