It's still weird for Joy, in the wake of her father's death, to have another man in that temporary role acting so much like him; asking her how her day at school went. But he's trying and she appreciates it, so Joy gives him a little smile and shrugs as she follows him to the stairs. "It was okay, yeah."
Joy's chewing on her bottom lip thoughtfully as Eliot's talking, curious as to where exactly he's going with this, but then he opens the door and she peeks inside the empty room. He had taken her in already when she had nowhere else to go. The fact that he's put forth this much effort is surprising and endearing.
"You didn't have to do all this..." she says softly, smiling a little as she moves into the empty room and toward the closet, as she's told.
