Judith was rigidly on alert until Derek said that he was fine, because he collapsed forward a little and she suspected that if he'd smelled any other potential threat, he wouldn't have relaxed like that. Judith leaned back against the nearest tree and lowered herself onto the ground, breathing heavily now that she felt like it was safe enough to rest to catch her breath.
At his question, she gave him a tired smile and nodded against the tree trunk, her eyes closing in a slow blink. "Yeah...yeah, I'm okay. I ain't hurt. Shit...no wonder Carl done had her as the priority hit," she huffed, a barked laugh that had little sound left for her breathlessness. That was an exaggeration; Carl had her as the priority hit because he knew for certain that she was a chimera and there was no room for doubt. He hadn't known what she was. "Christ all fuckin' Mighty," she sighed, pushing herself back up to her feet after catching her breath. "We done make a pretty good team, you know that? Thanks for savin' my ass. Guess we're even now and I ain't allowed to pick on ya no more."
