Following the subtly communicated suggestion, Judith started to move, slowly and carefully until she was able to get behind the tree he'd indicated. It was a shame she wouldn't have time to climb it, because she could definitely get in a better shot, but the branches were too high for her to reach on her own and it was a little too late to ask Derek for a boost.
Instead, she aimed the crossbow at the girl they'd followed, since she was the first priority in this mission and she gave Derek a sideways glance, waiting for his signal.
When he got to one, Judith's eyes shifted back to double check her aim and then she pulled the trigger, sending the arrow directly into the back of the female chimera's neck, dropping her. It might not kill her, but it'd slow her down enough for the moment and Judith didn't have a lot of time to react. She pulled another arrow and loaded it quickly, taking aim on the gangly male chimera while she still had the element of surprise — and the chimeras' subsequent flash of shock and confusion — on her side.
She managed to take him down with one shot, not missing the aim for his head and she loaded up the crossbow again, but didn't have time to actually line up a shot by the female had dragged the arrow back out of her throat and had started — too quickly — toward her.
Instead of taking another shot, Judith lunged forward to meet the girl halfway and swung the metal frame of the crossbow in the air, slamming it into the girl's face with all the force she could muster, knocking the girl back a few steps and slowing her down again.
