The name had her lifting her eyebrows a little. She'd heard of Derek Hale, how he'd been connected to a murder out in the woods and had been exonerated. She knew the name Hale, anyway, really but she remembered that specifically, because her father had mentioned it more than once in passing during the investigation of the dead girl in the woods.
"Nah, just a coupl'a years. My dad got a transfer a while back," she lied with ease. She almost started to believe it herself, honestly, after telling it to so many people over the past few years. "He's a deputy at the sheriff's department."
She looked out over their surroundings again, eyes squinting against the sun, before she looked back at Derek. "You always take on them things all by yourself like that or was it just one of them kindsa days today?" she wondered aloud.
