[Final Fantasy VIII] Quistis Trepe "Blue" Theme #16: Cyberpunk
Title: Blue
Author/Artist: tripsoverhercats
Fandom: Final Fantasy VIII
Character: Quistis
Rating: Gen (a little suggestive language)
Theme: Society #16 - Cyberpunk
Author's Note: A little short, but it sort of came out fast, a quick snapshot of the SeeDs and how they might exist in a dystopic cyberpunk world.
There were a lot of terms for people like them. Zeds, Nulls, Zeros, Marginals (but only if you were being polite), Illegals (that one was a vidcast term) the list went on. Down in the squalor, no legal identity, the forgotten, the outcasts… the exploitable. Old Cid Kramer hadn’t taken any of them in out of kindness, he was a Fixer and he needed bodies to do jobs. Seifer had cut and run along with Fujin and Raijin, but then Seifer always had his head up too high. He had dreams… wanted to matter.
Foolish, Quistis could have told him. There was no place for any of them out there. She knew, better than any of the others because she was the team’s Blue.
There were other words for that too… Skill Thief, Doppelganger, Brain Drainer, though none of the others ever said any of those words around her. A good Blue could turn an average team into one of the best on the market. And that meant contracts, maybe even Corp ones.
Though that wouldn’t mean anything if they didn’t get out of D-District alive tonight. Quistis was knelt over the entangled body of the security guard, her leads jacked into his as she stripped out everything she could before the stun wore off and the man triggered his wipe.
“Quis babe, don’t mean to rush ya, but…” Irvine’s slow drawl crackled in her ear. “I can’t keep shooting from here forever and Selphie’s starting to stroke her grenades again.”
"Wierd name for your pecker there Irvine."
"Can it Zell, we're on the clock."
“Patience is a virtue,” Quistis replied absently, ignoring the byplay, her eyes glowing slightly as data flickered behind the optics. This run would be lucrative enough for her to finally get the upgrade that would make them look human again. She was carrying the info they’d came for, she just needed to… ah. Her head tilted a touch and she smiled. “Got him.”
Squall and Zell looked over from where they’d been hugging the door, looking a bit worn from the mayhem they‘d already caused tonight. Mind alive with the security man’s knowledge, Quistis walked up to the panel with a borrowed swagger, wanting to sneer a bit at the two teenagers waiting for her. The guard she’d tapped was far down on the social scale but he’d held nothing but contempt for those who were even lower. So much for Seifer’s dreams, or the adoring gaze of his pretty legal princess who wanted to ‘help’. Quistis read the truth every time she used her talents. They weren’t welcome or wanted. She was fine with that, they had each other after all.
Her hand lifted up to the panel next to the door and her hand flew over the correct sequence, triggering the security shutdown and lock release. “We’re out.”
Mission complete.
