Who: Paige Calder (Rhode - Not Awake) and OPEN What: Lunch at the Diner Where: The Lexington Candy Shop When: Thursday afternoon, 1/9/2020 Warnings: TBD
The weather was finally cold enough for her to wear her favorite winter coat. It was bubblegum pink and she had mittens, a hat, and a scarf that were baby blue and bright yellow stripped that she also wore to keep out the chill. It all put her in such a good mood - and covered her work uniform when she was on the subway. Paige didn't mind having to wear it at work (it made deciding what to wear in the morning very easy), but out in the world, she got a lot of obscene comments in the little blue and white checked waitress outfit.
She did her best to ignore them, but it was just easier to throw on the happy colored coat and some earbuds and tune out the world. Of course, she still got some strange looks here and again because she had the good/bad habit of humming and singing along with her music. Once she'd caught herself starting to dance to what she'd been listening to. Oh well. It wouldn't be the strangest thing people had seen down there.
That afternoon, she entered the diner and smiled at the cook behind the counter. "Hello, Manuel! How's your son? Is he still sick? I brought cookies for the family. I hope it helps." Producing a small Tupperware container from her purse as she entered the back room, she slid it into the space that the other man had put his stuff. Then she made her way back into the small restaurant and behind the counter. She spent a few minutes getting the rundown from Addy, the waitress that was about to get off shift, and the immediately took up a coffee pot and refilled the regulars at the counter, asking about their families, too. Paige knew all of them by heart and they knew her.
The diner wasn't busy at all, really just a few retirees at the counter, doing their crosswords and gossiping about their children. So when the bells over the door went off, she looked up and smiled. "Hello! Have a seat anywhere and I'll be right with you."
