"It's probably for the best that you didn't try to force anything. If it hadn't worked, I would have surely thought you insane." She sipped at her water again and took a slow breath. The pain was slowly subsiding, he was right about that. But so many memories kept poking in from the corners of her mind. Two people trying to assert themselves as one. Themis winced.
She gave him a half smile. "I never will hold things back, either. There's no reason for me to do so. Not then and not now." Themis tapped a finger on his file. "But the prophesy..." She shook her head. "It feels so distant now. They always did. Once they came and were given, they... become like faded memories." She sighed. "I wish I could help more, but I don't even feel like I could guess at lottery numbers now."
"There might be some ethics violations, sure, but you'd have to report me to the board and explain that I was failing you because you violated an oath to Styx. And then explain to them what that means, because Styx doesn't hold sway under this current regime." She laughed a little bit. It felt good to laugh, to chase some of the darkness of the prophesy out of the room. "I'm glad you've made this vow. It looks good on you."
