After N’Jadaka and the the destabilization of her home, Shuri was more than content to remain in her lab. It wasn’t that she was afraid of fighting, no one could claim that but she had a lot of work to do. Not only was she tasked with helping the outreach center in Oakland, she was working on a updates for T’Challa, armour updates for the Dora Milaje and recalibrating Bucky’s arm. The thing was immaculate, of course, Shuri wouldn’t allow for anything less but there’s absolutely nothing that can’t be improved upon. So, when the rift opened, Shuri didn’t even notice it. In fact she’d passed it several times before she even noticed it and even then it took her a moment to realize there was something interesting and unknown her in her lab. As a scientist, anything unusual was fun and anything dangerous was even more fun. Most people might have ran, but Shuri’s curiosity often outweighed her sense of self preservation and instead of doing the sensible thing like a regular person might, she walked straight up to the anomaly and held up her kimoyo beads. Specially designed beads that scanned for radiation and gravitational anomalies were specific to her particular bracelet and the readings were... unimpressive to say the least, faint gravitational waves and a minor spike in radiation. boring. Shuri scowled at her kimoyo beads, turned around immediately to pick up the quantum scanner she’d been fiddling with and turned back to hold it up to the anomaly. Only to discover that it wasn’t there anymore and in fact neither was her lab, her surroundings were replaced with a dingy, unkempt yellow cobbled road and an unfamiliar forest. Perhaps most people would be a little put off by this particular turn of events, but Shuri was not most people. Certainly she was a little unnerved, but she’d just passed through what could only be described a rip in space time and honestly, if that’s not the coolest thing she didn’t know what was. Cool, maybe, but now she was stuck in an unfamiliar place alone and cold. Great. As she took in her new surrounds, Shuri spotted an odd looking bag a few feet away. “Hello?” she called out, not sure whether she wanted someone to be around or not. “Hello?” After several minutes and far too much tension later, Shuri was rummaging through said bag. She immediately pulled the blanket from within and wrapped it around herself as she scrolled through the phone. When she came across his name, Shuri couldn’t help but smile. Bucky Barnes. At least there was someone familiar, even if none of this made any sense at all. The safest bet to acquire information was by posting publicly and hoping against hope that the Bucky she’d found in her phone was the same one she’d fixed back home. After a brief exhange, Shuri was left on her own. It was quiet here, the only sound the rushing of a nearby river and the occasional ping of the mystery phone she was holding on to like a lifeline. It was old tech, practically primitive compared to the kimoyo beads but useful and comforting in her hand. Although she’d been waiting for Bucky, the sound of someone crashing through the trees set Shuri on edge and she shrunk away from the noise. She had a single bead on her bracelet for self defense and if it wasn’t Bucky, she hoped it would be enough to keep her alive. |
