He'd let Heather have her way with his hair, as she had said she wanted to so long ago now, taking her amusing threats of smacking him if he touched it with good humour. The night before had been enjoyable, though there was that lingering regret about Allan's departure. Still, he had told himself he would not let that spoil this day. He wouldn't let anything spoil it. They had been waiting for this moment for too long.
Heather had gone ahead to the Gazebo to make what she called 'last minute touches'. He had no idea what else she could possibly do, she had done so much for them already. He finished getting ready, managing to get the tie right, though he assumed Heather would check it. He could already imagine her wanting to fuss over his hair again. It had been nearly impossible not to laugh at her the first time.
As he walked down the path to the gazebo, he couldn't help but smile at all the little things she had done. From the flower petals either side of the path, to the lights he had told her he thought Marian would like. The weather was warm, but he wasn't about to question how. He could feel the anticipation of it starting to pull at him, but he wasn't nervous. He wouldn't allow himself to be nervous about something he knew he wanted so much. Wanted more than anything else he ever had before.
Reaching the gazebo he climbed the stairs, joining Heather. He saw that she was wearing the necklace he had given her for her birthday. "You look beautiful," he said with a smile.
