Bella raised her eyebrows, but smiled as George handed her the lighter. She had no idea what she would do with it, but she liked it, nonetheless. "Thanks," she said with a smile, tucking the lighter into her jeans pocket.
"Coffee then," Bella said, turning back to the boiling kettle. She pulled two mugs from the rack and retrived the caffetier from the draining board by the sink. The coffee from the grocery store wasn't all that expensive, but it tasted good, so she'd stocked up. Putting two scoops of the coffee into the caffetier, she poured the boiling water over and replaced the lid, waiting for the coffee to infuse.
While she was waiting, she turned back to George. "So, you... er..." She wasn't sure how to ask him without sounding like she was hinting at something. "You got someone waiting for you back home?" That was what miltary people said during the war, wasn't it? He seemed rather content here, so it hinted that there was no one he was missing, but that might just come from months of practise at blocking things like that out while he was fighting.
