Heaven had turned weird. Everything had changed over, well, a very short amount of time. One moment Lerael was bored and the next god had finally invented something interesting. Yes, there had been rumors that god had plans. But for too long heaven had been uneventful. And it wasn’t only his opinion. Other angels thought so, too. A few had even decided that they should take action themselves. Lerael had watched fascinated. Maybe he should try the same one day.
Heaven was suddenly crowded with angels and things. The angels had become strange, too. No wings and funny robes. And they stared at him whenever he stretched his own pair of wings, pointing at him and asking for his name. Honestly, what was wrong with them? Something else was funny. He could not leave – not that he minded – but he just could not fly wherever he wanted. He wondered why god kept them here and where all the others had gone.
Lerael stood near the shiny surface of what the other angels called the ‘lake’. He unfolded his wings and stretched them into the air so he could kneel down. He could see himself as he looked at the lake. It was a little wonder. He had never seen himself before. Not like this. Touching it felt funny. It was wet and you could not get a hold of it. He tried to grasp it but it ran through his fingers. Lerael chuckled softly. Yes, this place was a lot better than the heaven he knew.
