He smiled at that, just the faintest twitch at the corners of his mouth, turning his hand under hers where she brushed it with hers, linking their fingers together. "This hasn't been easy for you, I know," he acknowledged the point that had not been spoken. He didn't know how much she knew, but he did know she could pick up on his mood since he'd been back. He hadn't made any attempt to hide it.
"There was someone else," he spoke before taking another sip of his hot chocolate and setting down the mug again. "But it didn't end well." She would glean from that, he hoped, that it had ended.
